Obviously there was so many things going on yesterday what with it being a holiday, there was drag racing, gold, baseball and tennis all going on at the same time. There was also a high school football game, Dwyer of Florida ranked #11 in the nation traveled to Ohio to play Glenville ranked #6 in the nation.
For much of the game it was filled with mistakes and defense but did have some moments of real excitement along the way. It also had a very, VERY controversial ending. Dwyer scored not one but TWO winning touchdowns and neither were allowed by the refs.
Dwyer threw a touchdown pass and the reciever made one of the best catches you'll likely ever see in a high scholl game, came down with a knee and shoulder clearly in bounds but officials ruled he was out of bounds. Then on 3rd and goal from the 1 yard line Dwyer attempts a quarterback sneak that fails but the refs allowed the play to continue long after momentum was stopped and the clock continued to run. On 4th down Dwyer again went with the quarterback sneak and this time it was obvious to everyone in the stadium that Dwyer crossed the goal-line, I say obvious to everyone because basically both teams were in the endzone when play was whistled dead. However when the play was whistled dead the ref marks the ball short.
I feel bad for the kids. Not because they are a Florida team but because they are left with the knowledge they did in fact win the game but it'll still officially be recorded as a loss.
Nothing can be done for Dwyer but hopefully another Florida team will again be in that same stadium and the outcome won't come down to an officials call. Hopefully the Miami Hirricanes manage to get just a little redemption for Dwyer and the state of Florida this Saturday.
