    No-Hitters & Perfect Games
Ahhhhhhhhhh, the game of cycles; although, the same could be said for the NFL: a decade of offense, a decade of defense, a decade of NFC dominance, a decade of AFC dominance.......so, how does this translate to baseball?

It's obvious: look at all these no-hitters and "possible" perfect games---before the ALL-STAR break, for god's sake!

And, here's the elephant in the room, the question that BEGS to be asked: Now that the "Steroid-Era" is supposedly over, is this what we're left with: pitcher dominance?

    Indeed.

    Interesting.

    Indeed.

One has to wonder: how does Armando Galarraga (Tigers) come within the last out of the game (admittedly, he IS a good pitcher, dominant, no, but good, yes) from throwing the 21rst perfect game in MLB history in 100 years (give-or-take)?

Halladay, I'll believe; he's dominant; he's almost a 20-year veteran....and been in the 'dregs' of OH! CANADA! for a long time..........him, I believe....

but, Armando Galarraga!???!! Don't get me wrong------------I like the name: Andres Galarraga was a mean, intimidating force to be reckoned with.............but Armando?????

Tonight, (actually, last night) we saw on national T.V., two pitchers (who, admittedly HAD E.R.A.s cumulative over 10.00) throw no-hitters into the 8th inning

    Coincidence?!?
    Freak-Luck?!?
    National-Audience Spectrum?!?

Uh-uh. Something else is "afoot" here.... what, I dunno.....that's what I'm trying to explore.....

    Anybody "on-board?"

NOW, I'm not trying to suggest, by any means, that this is anything "covert." However, there is definitely a "shift" underway, for those of us who are watching.

So, do we stop watching (say, out of protest?) No.
Do the pitchers stop throwing perfect (or near-perfect) games? No.
Do the hitters stop hitting tape-measure homeruns, and with frequency and alacrity?

    YES. Do you need proof?!?

    O.K.

Where's McGwire or Barry Bonds with their "puffed-out" biceps and Sosa with his "corked-bat?"
    'Nuff Said!

Since that time (a.k.a. "home-run-era"), offensive production has DECLINED.......why?
Baseball is "POLICING itself"...and that's a good thing.....just like in the mid-1980's when players used to hit 50+ homeruns to secure a "mega-contract" (a.k.a. Cecil Fielder, Tigers), MLB is correcting itself just as the Dow Jones has Done (or about to do) within the last 75 years. The N.F.L. has been 'way-ahead-of-the-curve' on this...at least, for the last 5 years (or so).

For your perusal (and ridicule), I submit the following; a recent thread in SBR forum had a contest on Whom was to pitch the next "no-hitter;" the responses were obvious: Lincecum, Santana, Lee, etc....

MY response (although I didn't make one) would have been a little closer to the vest: Josh Johnson, Lincecum, Garza-Price-or Niemann, etc.

My point, here, and apologies for those of you who think I might be 'rambling.,' is that NNNNNNNNNOOOOOO-OOOOONNNNNNNNEEEEEEEE has thought (or at least posted) Neise (Mets, next closest-one; one hitter, in a double-header last week), Lily (Cubs), tonight, or Gavin Floyd (White Sox), tonight.......wwwwhhhhazzzzuppppppppp

To ask, "Who-else has feelings / thoughts about this subject?" would be ludicrous. We all do. So share them.

    Please.

    Your administrator-wanna-be.......(no-offense intended, Mr. A.)

    Dan
