When someone tells you something on the evening news, from "Iraq has wmd" to "Afghanistan has the evil Taliban and they're helping Bin Laden hide out" to "Look at this fancy new toy that you don't need" just stop and think "WHY ARE THEY TELLING ME THIS AND/OR SHOVING THIS DOWN MY THROAT?".

It isn't to give you information, enlighten you, educate you, or amuse you. IT IS TO MAKE THEM MONEY. Same story with handicappers, casinos, sportsbooks, etc - every single thing they do or say is to make themselves money.
