I think "doom and gloom" is nothing more then a way for people to put another bad label on something... It is a general INACCURATE term!

I don't not believe you are correct about the credit crunch being isolated to only housing... I think it's in Auto, CC's, and Mortages... The other two will see their day shortly as the trickle effect from housing takes hold... It's causing a loss of jobs and income...

You're absolutely right, the sub-prime stuff only started the credit house of cards falling. Also I wonder if the average American Idiot has figured out that they are making less money now than just 5 years ago with the value of the dollar so low. The Canadian dollar is worth more for christ sake. Has anyone been to Europe in the last year or so? My wife and I visited the Amsterdam last summer for vacation because I like to smoke pot, look at both kinds of dikes, and windmills, but thats off point. The value of the dollar against the euro is unbelievable. It cost me about 5 dollars U.S. for 1 cup of coffee.

Guys I have been a big gold and silver guy since 02' BUT there is one thing that worries me about that...NANO... Yeah I understand there is some serious progress being made in "molecular manufactoring" and we could see a day in the not to distant future where you will be able to change an element from one element to another... Gold to Silver ..Copper to Gold... Tacomax to Owned... Owned to Tacomax... This would make almost all commodities go to 0... This is a very real technology and it's pretty damn exciting if you ask me...

No joke here, as a student of sciences, I like to see the latest in dikes (big pile of dirt to hold water back, or 2 chicks driving a jeep) and windmills ( basically an airplane prop on a stick used to generate electricity).

I'm kind of at the other end of the spectrum MEGA-TECH. How large can you safely build something such as a windmill, dam, or exactly how high can you pile shit, things like that. I know that nano-tech is a fastly developing field and maybe one day when my employer finally collapses under its own weight I will check it out.

                    That's hilarious!

MEGA-TECH.. wow I bet that is quite interesting... I hope you don't lose your job but I bet the change from MEGA to NANO would be interesting as well....

I understand that every major university has a major contract with a company in the industry to develope this technology...

Could be a great call John. I didn't realize grand wizard Bernanke was scheduled to speak. Market now pricing in a 50 pt rate cut, so for the rest of the month we're back to bad news is good news.

That + COF makes 2 in one day. DFS and the others won't be far behind. B of A can buy Countrywide if they want, but it ain't gonna keep the streets free of blood for long. The consumer is going somewhere - they're going out on the street, once they max out & default on their credit card lifeline.

                            So far so Good!

With earning season upon us its going to be a choppy ride. I think the 4th qtr 07 is fine but guidance going forward will likely be lowered. Could be some sell offs but once we are through this 3 week period it will get going again.

personally don't see an uptick till 2nd qtr, market lacks leadership from industry or government. add 9 weeks to your predictions and we are on the same page.

For what its worth Cramer just said we hit the bottom on mad money a few minutes ago.

He also said your better off buying a lotto ticket then Etrade sounds like he thinks etrade will go bankrupt.

So dont buy etrade long term but maybe a good day trade stock

Another great day to be short the market. I think I'll find a bargain to buy before the close put in a tight stop and see what happens monday after a weekend full of hype from CNBC and now FOX Bus. Maybe I can pick up some lunch money.

My take on this market? As usual, the American public is picking up the tab for American corporate greed...

But there are always opportunities. INP, the Indian ETF I mentioned here a few months ago, when it was around 58, closed today at 112.

I think the market is going into rollercoaster mode. The plunger team will be back in action tommorrow with some more liquidity or some asswipe from the fed will be talking about cutting rates. This will cause the market to go up ( people like myself covering short positions) 100 for a day. then back down 250 the next. Stay short the dow etf and the s&p 500 etf. Its been a big winner for me since the day after Christmas.

I don't think all the rate-cutting talk in the world can help right now. After Bernanke last week, there's no gas left in that tank. Only strong earnings by Intel or some anti-recessionary data tomorrow can really give the Dow legs.

That's the point the dow isn't getting legs and I expect some more downside. Except for a small rally tomorrow after some B.S. from somebody to pick up some lunch money.
