But why do you need faith to begin with? Can't we just accept our fate? Why are we so egotistical to believe that our lives are of the utmost importance, when we are just mere animals inhabiting this speck of dust, and at some point in time, we will cease to exist, and nothing further will happen, except our molecules dissipating back into the collective ball of matter/energy that we inhabit?

Why do people even bother praying? Are they seriously that selfish to think that their wants/needs are THAT important? What about the child somewhere that is being abused, or is hungry, and is praying to God, and never receives an answer? Isn't that child's needs more important than us winning a bet, or paying the rent, etc? According to the bible, God cherishes children; they know no sin, and can do no wrong. When the tribulation comes, and Christ returns, all those who have accepted him into their hearts, as well as all children, will return with him to heaven.

Therefore, if he places children in a special exempt category, logic would tell you that they are more important to him. And if they are so important to him, why would he let them go hungry, be homeless, get abused, etc., yet have no problem with answering your meaningless prayer?

In "The Grand Design" Stephen Hawking explains that even present day scientific knowledge can explain the philosophical question: "When and how did the the universe begin". It's not Stephen's personal observation or theories. It's pure SCIENCE explained in simple laymen words.
