    Strasburg's flawed mechanics identified
San Diego State's Stephan Strasburg' mechanics were identified as flawed in an online article by Dick Mills 10 weeks prior to being selected by the Nationals in 2009. Mills was the first to issue a warning about mechanical flaws in Strasburgs so called "momentum delivery" on March 25, 2009. At that time, Mills stated that Strasburg's continued use of his present delivery method could lead to a serious shoulder and/or elbow injury. He added that a correction would not only reduce the risk of arm injury, but improve velocity and control. Mills believes that mechanical flaws were ignored in Strasburgs case because his eye popping fastball and changeup were leading to tremendous results. The Nationals as an organization, can not afford to lose Strasburg for 18 months. Hopefully, he will fully recover and continue to breath life into a dying organizattion. The Nationals are lucky that the injury did not occur before Harper (#1 overall this year) was signed as that might have impacted his signability as well. It will be interesting to see if this situation has a ripple effect through MLB in regard to young pitchers and how teams develop them. The good news is, alot of Hall of Fame pitchers had serious arm troubles very early in their careers, and went on to be great anyway.
