    Your worst beat?
A conversation with my local book inspired me to post this thread.

He told me about a college football game that I believe was last year. Forgive me, but I don't remember the specifics. But for what matters, Team A was favored over Team B by about 9-12 points.
Naturally, the bookie is way heavy on the favorite and needs Team B to cover. The game goes into overtime and Mr. Book is ready to chalk this up as a win.
But, as they say, something goes terribly awry. Team A scores a TD in OT. But on their ensuing possession, Team B throws an interception which is returned for a TD, giving Team A a double-digit victory and enough points to cover the spread.

Like all sports gamblers, I've had more bad beats than I care to recall.
The most recent one I remember is in 2006 in NCAA FB.
I had a bundle on Army as a big dog (of course). Anyway, it's late in the game and I need the Cadets to score seven points to give me a half-point win. As time runs out, Army scores a TD and I figure I'm going to be a big winner. However, per NCAA rules, the PAT is not attempted and I take a big loss.

Anyone else got some worst beat stories?

1993 Houston oilers choke to Buffalo. I had Hou ML. They show this game over and over on the NFL network and each time I see a clip it makes me a little bit older. Horrible beat. Horrid!

Today was a shitty beat for me Raptors -4. Lead by 13 going into the 4th and can't hold on.

Giants last season versus Titans. Giants DE thought he sacked VY and let him go.. VY ended up running 20+yds to pick up a first down on 4th & 13..

Giants were up 21-0 in the 4th QTR. Loss still hurts.

1987 I think, Tampa Bay @ St.Louis Tampa up 28-3 going into 4th Qtr. The Rams score 28 in the 4th to win 31-28....Yep it was November 8, 1987

And I had forgoten about that until I read this post,.

          Thanx Brother

I had that same NCAA type loss where I thought I won after the TD but no extra point this year. I actually posted a thread about it here wondering why the PAT was not kicked. I was not familiar with the rule

I would have to say that yesterday ranked up there in the top 10 lossed for me. I had Jacksonville -3. Up 28-10 late in the 3rd qtr. That freakin blitz on 4th and goal turned the game around. Jags won by two. Why is it that when your team fails to cover, you wish they'd lose? I get that feeling alot. I still think I took the right team while handicapping thst game. I LOVE hearing about bookie stories likie yours though.

My worst beat would have to be this year NCAA FB. I had Alabama (-2) in the first half against Mississippi St. Alabama is up 9-3 and on the MSU 4 yard line with 4 seconds left in the half. Anyway Parker throws an interception in the end zone which is returned 100 yards for a touchdown as time expires. I lose.

Another one would be last years MNC. I took Ohio State. They ran back the opening kick off and I was pumped! I don't think they scored again.

few years back I think it was the Browns that I had (maybe Steelers) and they were covering and driving to take a lead with under a minute left. Were inside the 10 yard line when Ed Reed picked it off and ran it back 100+ yards. wish I remembered more specifics but I erased it from the memory bank.

4 years ago. Game at NC Charlotte. I had +11 and the ML. They were up 7 with a minute to go (I think closer to 51 seconds)...they go onto miss 4 straight 1 and 1s. Game goes into OT and they lose by 13...

That was a tough one to eat.

Back in the 80's, I had San Diego -9 or -9.5, something like that, in a Saturday game. I forget who the opponent was though.

Anyway, Chargers were up 14, and on the game's "final" play, opponents pass is knocked down in end zone. But wait....PASS INTERFERENCE. So opponent gets one untime play from the one yard line. Then, San Diego offers little resistance with the game in hand and practically allows receive to catch fade pass without even trying to defend it. Won by seven.

Echoing what ChampDog said, thanks for the memories!

Back a couple of years ago I had a 5 fold football accumulator.

My 1st 4 had won & my 5th team Hartlepool were winning 3-0 with about 15 mins left.

A winner for sure, but oh no the other team scored 3 goals in the last 10 mins to draw 3-3 & rob me of a decent payout

I still hate Hartlepool to this day

It's weird because in the NFL you have to attempt the PAT.

Anyways, NYJ were down 14 at Cincinnati, scored a meaningless TD on a hail mary as time expired, and were forced to attempt the PAT - which they went for 2 and converted - and it actually made the game land exactly on the line of 7.
