A conversation with my local book inspired me to post this thread.
He told me about a college football game that I believe was last year. Forgive me, but I don't remember the specifics. But for what matters, Team A was favored over Team B by about 9-12 points.
Naturally, the bookie is way heavy on the favorite and needs Team B to cover. The game goes into overtime and Mr. Book is ready to chalk this up as a win.
But, as they say, something goes terribly awry. Team A scores a TD in OT. But on their ensuing possession, Team B throws an interception which is returned for a TD, giving Team A a double-digit victory and enough points to cover the spread.
Like all sports gamblers, I've had more bad beats than I care to recall.
The most recent one I remember is in 2006 in NCAA FB.
I had a bundle on Army as a big dog (of course). Anyway, it's late in the game and I need the Cadets to score seven points to give me a half-point win. As time runs out, Army scores a TD and I figure I'm going to be a big winner. However, per NCAA rules, the PAT is not attempted and I take a big loss.
Anyone else got some worst beat stories?
