Ya im really looking forward to the US open this year. I think theres a solid 5-6 guys who have a GOOD shot at winning it. (opposed to just nadal and federer). I wish del potro was healthy, i love watching that man play.

Ivan Lendl is not a celebrity. He's an athlete who played the sport - of course tennis fans would be interested in what he had to say. The average 20 something though? I doubt most of them even know who he is, or if they've heard his name, know little of what he's accomplished.

As for Tom Cruise - are you shitting me? He's a tripped out Scientologist, who jumps on couches, wears lifts in his shoes and likes schlong more than you do. He's a total laughingstock but because he's white, that makes his opinion more interesting right? I care about what he says as much as I'd care what any celebrity had to say - I wouldn't use their opinion to help my wagering but sure, it's something interesting to read when you're bored surfing online. As far as his music career, are you saying we should put more credence in what Justin Bieber thinks about tennis because he's got a hit song?

I posted this not because I thought anyone would go out and place a bet based on what this guy had to say. It was more because it surprised me that he could spew out stats and was obviously a big tennis fan since I've never seen him at a match. Plus I liked the way SI went about it - give the guy some paper and get him to write out his opinion to be published.

yea that seems crazy that he gets such a large sentence for doing nothing other than having a firearm (which makes more sense in his case than a regular joe). Some people say celebrities get off easier but I'd say that lately they seem to get it much worse than the average person would.

I think you're right. The part that stuck out for me from the article Big linked was that the DA almost appeared to accept the defense that it wasn't Wayne's gun but because it was in his 'dominion' (his tour bus) he was responsible for it even though the apparent real owner was even willing to confess it was his.

Talk about getting royally hooped up the ass. (Hopefully not literally for Wayne - he is Lil and all.)
