The handle TB was using before was that of a guy, or at least that's the impression that was given - that's part of the reason most people believe he is in fact a man. Either way it shouldn't matter to anyone. I'm a woman and I still get accused of being a man despite several long-term posters talking to me on the phone and verifying my gender so there's just no winning on here.

Exactly, and everyone should treat each other respect regardless.

But it is true. that across most male dominated forums, sometimes the "female poster names" get a little more attention. And a lot of guys want the attention- for whatever reason, so they make a "female poster name".

But, I will say that it really does have its benefits sometimes:
I have noticed quite frequently that a lot of players have a tendency to show liniency in their poker play against "female" poker names, by not playing as aggressive as they should. The key is for the "female poker name" to always be friendly and chat with the other players. This is huge near the bubble- I have witnessed the table basically folding everything when the supposed female was in the SM or BB, to help "her" make it to the final table.

I have no evidence on the % of time this works, but any edge, no matter how small, is a welcome one.

The guys here should try it, and see for themselves, it really does work sometimes.
