Today is going to be a freakin disaster.
anyways got a "one day test run" construction job (roofing). Just heard about it yesterday and my sleep schedule was really bad like not going to sleep till 3.30 A.M. or so. Today is the day I'm going in and I have tried sleeping for the last 3 hours but no luck and since i need to be up by 5 A.M. its not even worth trying anymore.

Gonna be out in the sun (90 degrees and humid, on a roof having been up for 30 hours without sleep)

wow this is gonna be a fun day.

Drink lots of water and get yourself some of those 5 hour energy shots. This will at least make it somewhat easier for you. Otherwise you may pass out.

Just postpone until Monday. You won't be able to make a good impression without sleep, and they didn't give you enough notice.

thought about that. they seemed kind of desperate to get someone working since they were running behind and stuff, so i think it would be a really bad idea to call in on my first trial day.

Maybe I can just tell them the truth that I didn't get any sleep and if they are half way smart they should understand that will hinder my performance quite a bit?

Hate working/doing anything low on sleep, just juice up on the water you will be all right and enjoy that long nap.

Roofing is a tough job. Not particularly because of the physical demands but because of the heat. If you're working summer during midday it's tough enough but when the heat starts radiating off the tar paper it can push 40C+. Bring lots of water. Don't bother with the energy drinks if they contain caffeine.

I just hope this is a flat roofing job because if it's a pitched roofing job you will end up dead.

man it was bad. there was a few times i felt like i was going down. I prob drank 150-180 ounces of liquid (mostly water). I also am in terrible shape so that did not help. it was a 4/12 roof. so not flat but at least not steep. I took quite a few breaks and was dying at the end. after 1 P.M. i was basically useless. i did a tiny bit but i was in pretty terrible shape. I felt like what prob a 500 pound man feels like. even after a break i was getting exhausted after moving 50 feet back and forth.

Now that I am finally home, my body is acting funny. My finger started going crooked and there was nohting i could do. I moved it with my other hand, it happened one more time, then i started rubbing it and then it acted normal. Then my leg has like a really bad spasm. I can't crouch at all without their being any pain. This one seems pretty typical, just much worse than normal. Is the finger thing a problem though? Seems ok now....

pretty big blisters on my hands. not sure if it was from the heat? they seemed to develop very quickly when usually my hands wouldn't blister that fast......

basically i was very deliberate in everything I did and took breaks when i felt dizzy (which was all the fokking time) and that somehow got me through. still was pretty dangerous i think, it was probably dumb to do.

Omg...way to gut it out man. The crooked finger...been there...either dehydration or cramps. It'll pass. Roofing...or any construction job for that matter...is tough. What part of the country are ya in? I'd hate to imagine you down here in the southeast on a roof where our cool fronts have dipped to 90 lately.

they said the previous guy was slower than me.....

the guy before that guy quit after one day because of a sun burn

Plus I explained that I didn't get any sleep and they seemed fairly understanding given they didn't give me much notice....

wisconsin, which doesn't sound too bad but its 90 and humid right now. The bright side is most likely the temps should cool within the next few weeks. Bad side, no work in winter.
