Register a free voicemail number at http://www.K7.net. They give you a FREE phone number, which goes straight to voicemail, and you check the messages online. It stays active as long as you don't go more than 30 days without logging in to check your messages. I use my K7 phone number to sign up with books to avoid the cold calls.

That's what I do, but you'll get the occasional POS book like YouWager that'll close your account for having a disconnected number.
