whether he remains with the big league team into the next season (2012) is the bigger question imo.
The kid has to likely start at A level, then AA, AAA, and kill at every progression. He may not be so great at AAA level. Give him some time to develop. No need to rush him, IMO.

This summer he isn't playing; minor leagues are ending in 2 weeks. Spring 2011 he'll go to big league camp until he gets sent down to minor league camp around March 11th.

Then he'll be assigned to long season A, and from there probably 2+ full minor league seasons (and some AZ fall league) before a call up. My bet is July 2013.

I think Baus is to pessimistic. Between what he says and what I say is realistic, kid called up around Sept 2012 ( or during 2012 ) is reasonable, 2011....I'd say later.

i agree, no rush to get him to the show right away but i'm sure the nats will give him a taste of the big leagues after labor day as i'm sure that they will not be contenders next year either.

zimmerman made it to the bigs in sept. of his first year, after tearing through every minor league level. granted harper will have more to learn in the minors (new position) but his bat speed is unreal for someone so young.

Just like Buster Posey, I think late Sep 2012. But if the Nats are really in the need cuz their back-up Catcher went on the DL, then maybe sooner.

Harper won't be playing catcher in the pro's...if my memory serves me correct they're moving him to the outfield.

Has Harper played enough in the outfield? I hate it when they do that cuz usually they end up getting Tommy John surgery for over using their arms in long toss. Just like what the Padres did with Kyle Blanks; moved from 1st to OF. This year, Blanks has end season TJ surgery. But you never know.

It probable they will move him to outfield - he played in the OF about half of the games in his College year and more so as the year went on --

-- if they want to have him at catcher that will slow his progression down by about a year or two -
