Why does my TV show the Fox NFL game with black on top and bottom of screen?

    Why does my TV show the Fox NFL game with black on top and bottom of screen?
    I currently have an old TV that is probably at least 8 years old. It does not have HDTV or anything like that. I only have basic cable with 15 channels or so total. I am watching this NFL game on FOX and i notice the game does not go full screen on my tv. Is there a reason for this? The top and bottom of the screen is black so it makes my view of the game worst. Does anyone know if i can change this to full screen?

    I am not sure if I'm explaining this correctly but I'm pretty sure you guys know what i mean. Does anyone know if i can fix this? It does not do this on CBS though. Once it goes to commerical, i can see the whole screen but this game is short of shrunk if you know what i mean.

      Yeah they already explained it twice actually, they are showing the game in "HD style" for those who do not have HD. You are actually seeing more of the game this way.

              they're showing everyone the way it should look if you get in the 21st century by showing you widescreen so you actually see a much wider & better view of the game, not panning around like a cameraman on coke
