    Virus problems?
Anybody else having any problems with their computers when starting up. I have been getting bogus anti-virus sites popping up trying to get my info.Porn sites, viagra ads, nudephotosites, etc.and using Internet Explorer which I never use. I use AVG and had no luck removing them until finally today.I'm convinced I am getting this problem when I go to the gambling forum across the street. I'm staying away from there until I'm convinced it's safe again.

What gets me is I almost never get any viruses. I either use Flock or Mozilla Firefox.

in oder words, you need to restore your system , use the windows cd, back up from the cd and format.

Intall the Windows, then all the drivers.

put your cd in the drive, then when you boot up (the pc wakes up) you need to enter BIOS and select which drive to boot from. That should be this CD now. Then it is pretty straightforward.

If he's removed the parasites why is everyone suggesting he reformat? I had bogus anit-virus software popping up all the time (a virus) and I got rid of it by running a program called "Malwarebytes" in safe mode. Haven't had the pop ups since.

Also, my Avast has "expired" - didn't realize that was possible. Is there another free virus scanner people use?

exactly. keith, just cause you have a virus/malware does not mean you need to format. please do not listen to these people

do you not get pop ups asking to renew free for a year? the home version is free per year but you have to register it. nothing more then entering an email addy and clicking on a link. no charge.

WTF? Stop telling people they have to reinstall windows! That is total BS! First off if Keith's system is infected, he could simply use "system restore", to return his computer to an earlier time before it picked up any viruses. If you reformat the entire system, you are going to lose all your settings, drivers, programs, etc.. and if you don't know what the hell you're doing, you could wipe the whole damn hard drive and lose everything, ie.. pictures, videos, installed software. Keith, first go to this web site, http://www.safer-networking.org/en/index.html and download Spybot-Search and Destroy, the program is free, although they do accept donations. It sounds like your system has a ton of spyware and malware, picked up from sites you have visited. You can schedule it to run everyday, and set it up to update automatically. This free site has a great forum too, and can help you resolve many problems. Next go to Avira AntiVir Personal - FREE Antivirus http://www.free-av.com/en/products/index.html This is the best free anti virus program out there today. AVG sucks and misses a lot of detections. Make sure you completely uninstall AVG before running a this new software. The two programs will conflict with each other and slow down your system. Finally make sure you have a good firewall in place, and I'm not talking about the windows firewall either. You need one that blocks inbound as well as out bound internet traffic. This will get your system cleaned up and holler back if I can help with anything else, and as always, points are greatly appreciated.

here you go.... i'd ignore the part about getting the SuperAntiSpyware and skip straight to the malware-bytes.

                            good luck.
