Looks like no one is in a big herry to answer this one, it's pretty tough. Maybe you can give us a small clue tomorrow (after you've selected a few winners for everyone, so no one here gets too upset).

Correct identification of all three individuals. So of what is this a picture?
Any one of the three men pictured could have been omitted and the clue still would have worked.

                        "Ear" is not specific enough.

                        The numeric specifics are relevant.

Someone in this thread already identified the name of this monster

The "professor" described is quite obscure (unless you went to the university where he's said to have taught). I'll remind you that there's nothing ignoble about using Google.

Quite impressive. Did any of the clues really give it away? Was it the last one?

Now only because it's the holiday season, I had decided to award a prize to the 1st person to answer correctly (so don't anyone get too accustomed to that, btw).

Choice of one of these fine prizes:
                            1. CD set of the the Mackris v. O'Reilly Opera
                            2. I Am America (And So Can You!) by Stephen Colbert

So if you're interested in claiming the prize Data, PM me your choice and your mailing details.

If you're not interested in claiming, the prize goes to the next person to answer correctly.

To some extent, yes, the last one.

Maybe I'll have to offer a prize for the next puzzle, too ...

Here's my biggest mental block -

The original clue says "mythical Ivy League professor"

                                                    Penn
                                                    Dartmouth
                                                    Yale
                                                    Harvard
                                                    Brown
                                                    Princeton
                                                    Columbia
                                                    "Corn"ell

So you can't google one of these universities for an actual professor's name, because he's mythical.

So, in my mind, one of these universities needs to be named in the clue ("Corn"ell?). Otherwise, why the reference to Ivy league?

So far, however, I haven't seen the author of this puzzle say anything negative to the word "husk".

Joseph Cornell? Nothing about him fit.
