If you read or watch that history channel on how the Japanese treated their prisoners and how they occupied the countries they had conquered we where a bunch of PU**YS
The complete genocide of that island is what was called for
Today it still should be a glowing mass of inhabitable radiation soaked smoldering Rock where nothing can live or grow until the year 3000

that saved American GI lives. If that didn't happen an invasion of the Japanese home island was next. The Japs would fight to the death. The A-bomb may have saved more lives than it took. Once the second was dropped, they knew they were beat.

I sadly agree. A US invasion would have killed probably 1 to 3 million Japanese citizens and around 500,000 US service men and cost an untold amount in resources for both countries. We would not have been able to help them rebuild had we had to fight another 5 to 10 years. As sad as it was, it was the best of the terrible alternatives.

American power destroyed Japan, then the Japs took off not wasting their time with armies, since they were not allowed to have one, and focused on technology, becoming a world power.

All in all, best thing that could have happened for all involved.
