OT - Anybody here own a Taser?
AAlright gun nuts I know the difference, so let's not turn this into a Hitman thread. I wanna know if anybody here owns a Taser. If so, what model do you own and how do you like it? Any and all info is appreciated.

Ever bring a taser to a gunfight?

U.S. most armed country with 90 guns per 100 people.

More weapons for the citizens, at the rate they are going America will be the safest country on earth., after all, guns make you safe, right?

Never had one, but have been stung with one. Handheld version, no flying barbs.

In college this kid had one. We were all in the dorm one night pounding beer and got curious. We took turns stinging each other.

Hurts like a son of a b1tch. Dropped me down to one knee. Left a burn mark on my skin.

Personally dont own a hand held type. Can I ask your reason for inquiring about them (personal protection, dog protection, kinkiness, etc.)? Then I could probably lead you in a better direction on what type to get.

When I was in the legal weapons business, we sold them to law enforcement agencies, and I had the displeasure of being shot with a taser gun for business purposes.

Shoot me a pm, and I will give ya some details on the legality of owning/carrying a taser concealed, in most states its illegal to carry one without a concealed weapons license.

I am looking into one for personal protection for a loved one. I might pick one up myself because it would make a great conversation starter.

Just make sure they practice using it and don't zap themselves, some mace might be less dangerous and just as effective, I'm assuming this is for a female loved one. Just spray any guy right in his eyes and run, or knee him in the groin after doing so then run.

Why would you need a Taser gun for personal protection? They have very limited range and are not very accurate. They are also balkier than pistols. Get a Glock. Very easy to operate, lightweight, easy to conceal and lethal up to 50 yds, not 10 ft like tasers.

Illusion, Im guessing your talking about a touch type taser? For one its illegal for a non law enforcement person to own a dart type taser, so whoever is suggesting that doesnt realize that.

The touch kind IMO are useless, they only work on bare skin, the optimum shock spot is the back of the neck. Any of the ones with over 500k volts will knock you silly if hit on the neck.

For a wife (loved one) a taser isnt realistic, unless they have some sort of training in taking a threat to the ground, where they can get to bare skin. IMO, a woman is more likely to have it taken away from her and used against her than be able to use it properly.

Like I said in an earlier responce, its illegal to carry the stupid things anyways in most states with out a concealed weapons license.

Like crazy said, get some high quality mace and she will probably be alot safer. Id suggest a spray that is a mixture of pepper spray and cs gas, again not legal to carry concealed in most states.

I went thru this with my wife for years, she didnt want to get a CWL and carry a gun. Finally about 5 years ago I got her enrolled in a CWL class, and she now carries her S&W 637 Airweight everywhere she goes.

I have been tasered before, and it was not a pleasant experience.
