thanks 6 pts per day till 50 pts for anyone who can figure this out and whether or not my 20/300 eyes will qualify (i can't see far away) which would make me farsighted correct?

Minimum 0.5 per each eye means that whomever is asking you this requires you to have near perfect vision.
If your eyesight is 20/300 you definitely will not qualify unless you have surgery.

You're myopic. 0.5 refers to the degree of deficiency. Get a prescription from the ophthalmologist with the 0.5 whatever and get yourself some contacts of glasses. Or get laser corrective surgery (Lasik) but I would be weary of this route and Homer's eyes crusted over blinding him on the Simpsons. No need for points.

like i said in your other thread, it is has do with the vision of your eyes and 20/300 wouldn't make it.

And if you can't see objects far away, this will make you nearsighted, not farsighted.

requirement for joining the military. i dont think you guys have it right tho. I think you have to have pretty terrible vision uncorrected to be disqualified but i may be wrong.

Mrmarket, i do not have 0,5, that is the worst you can have to join. I want to know if my eyesite is better than 0,5 or worse

as long as your vision can be corrected with glasses, you will be ok with military

check out what this guy said:

As long as your vision can be corrected to 20/20 with glasses there is no reason you will be denied. My left eye is 20/300 and the military optometrist was able to prescribe glasses that corrected my vision. The best bet for you is to talk to a recruiter and see what they say.

Which actual branch of the military are you looking to join? And what is your vision once it's corrected? Do you have glasses/contacts?

my vision is correctable to 20/20, but this was the requirement for uncorrected vision. I suppose they want you to be able to see somewhat if for whatever reason you don't have your glasses/contacts.

I'm going to attempt to join the French Foreign Legion assuming I meet the mininum requirements. (this is the only one im not really sure about)

I want to at least make sure I will have a shot before I apply for my Visaa and purchase a plane ticket.

Because my left eye is -0.5 which is the equivalent of 20/40 (a half degree off of perfect vision). I can't even get a prescription for glasses/contacts of any sort because my eyesight is basically considered perfect although if I'm at a sporting event and have crappy seats the players become a bit blurry around the edges.

Shari, 0.5 is different than 0,5 but I do know what you mean.

0.5 of a diopter uncorrected is outstanding vision yes uncorrected.

Oh okay. I was assuming he meant 0.5.

Then ignore me OMG!! Either way, I hope it works out for you and you can get in. They'd be lucky to have you and I think it would be a great adventure for you.

Good luck OmgUrMom and thank you for the SBR point. Much appreciated.

Speaking of eyesight, I went to my eye Dr. yesterday since I thought I had pick eye but it hurt like hell.

Glad I went, turns out I have a corneal ulcer (right eye) as a result of, according to the Dr. :

Not cleaning the contact lens properly
                                            Not changing it often enough
                                            Wearing it overnight too often.

He says I can never wear a lens overnight again, SH-T.

I have to use eyedrops once an hour for the first few days, then once every 4 hrs. and I can't wear a contact in that eye for 7 - 14 days.

Sucks, left eye I can see fine since I had cataract surgery (lens replacement) which was a dream come true, don't anyone hesitate to get it if you need it. Right eye I can't see the E on an eye chart plus I have to use reading glasses so I can't drive or do much of anything for a while.

Even with Health Insurance, the medication IQUIX (5 ml bottle) is the latest antibiotic out and cost $50.00 co-pay. Geez, pharmacist said retail price is well over $100.00 and best price online is just under $100.00

I have better than perfect vision. Doctor said I had 20/13 vision and I was like what do you mean, I need glasses? She laughed and told me it's actually better than 20/20. I can read all the way to the bottom line of one of those tests. I feel blessed to not have to wear glasses or contacts. My sister did the lasix surgery and she does not wear glasses anymore, shit works.
