Everytime I watch AMW, some lowlife posts "bail" and then flees...
Seems like a government scam to make profit. Pretty sad if that is true.

how is it a scam? Most of the time they have to return the money.
It's like collateral so the guy doesn't run.

Exactly. The perps family / friends usually sign away something they own to get that person out.
The real question is why do the bondsmen have so much power. If Dog Chapman has me in his sights, those paintball ball guns and bail officer shirts are not scaring me off.

It exists so innocent people will at least be free until the court date. Not everyone is guilty that posts bail

Agree there is a useful reason for bail. It is of course denied to somebody like those guys that shot innocent people around Virgina and Wash DC some 5+ years ago.
Most people with minor crimes get released on O/R before too long, anyway.
It is the middle range crimes that require a bail bond....maybe an accused DUI driver with victims in the hospital....if he's the mayor and owns property, I think bail is appropriate....he won't run or drive.....clears up needed jail space, can't house everybody . If some uninsured illegal Mexican driver, then no bail, Juan would sure go back to Mexico.
Is the perp a flight risk ? Not really if it is Kobe Bryant accused of being therapist....he ain't leaving the country.
Said Mayor-type should be as happy as a gopher in soft dirt for a few months of freedom, too !

I always hear John Walsh complaining about criminals out on bail, must be too slack.
