Are ticket writers in Vegas Degenerate gamblers as well?

Then to top it off, they have to book the action rather than partake and root..

Most gamble no doubt. Some aren't degens though I would consider some of them sharps. They get to see and hear a lot of info the public doesn't. I always shoot the shit with the writers and ask 'em how it's going. I hate the fucks that are miserable and say 1 word answers.

I was a ticket writer for Leroy sportsbooks, worked mostly at Hooters and the Tropicana for a few years after college. We always had decent lines, better than most of the big places like MGM. There would always be a few guys who bet for a living and everytime they put big money on a bet, we could call each other and let each other know. After a few years in Vegas, and i got older i moved back to Michigan. But yeah most ticket writers pay attention to the big fish and tail alot of times.

Worked in the business for close to 10 years in Vegas at four different joints...............1 year as a writer, 1 year as a cashier, 1 year as an admin, and 5-6 years as a supervisor/oddsmaker/asst. manager.


To answer your question, no, most are not degenerate gamblers.........many are young females just doing a good days work(writers make 60-80 per 8 hr shift) and most of the females in the business seldom wager at all, let alone are degenerates.

As far as the guys, sameway, although you are always going to have many that get in over their head betting from time to time and the majority do gamble on sports and other things..........but the vast majority are certainly not what you would classify as degenerates.

Occassionally you will have the writer that steals from his or her drawer, but this is uncommon also and only occurred 2-3 times in all the time I worked in a sportsbook.

All in all, 95+% of sportsbook employees are VERY GOOD PEOPLE.

Worked in the stations casino business for a couple of years and of all the folks in race and sports.. only ONE was a degen...owed everybody he worked w/as well as guests of the casino...drank like a maniac and gambled away his paycheck every week..then would go begging for loans...Sad to say the least...Bosses got wise of the guy and fired him at the company Christmas party for getting way to drunk and begging other employees...Very Sad...and this was 2007 to 2010..
