No, he can't hear you. He tried the same thing with me and blamed it on my accent until I busted him on it. I think he's gone deaf from all that screaming into the camera he does. That's why he wears those scarves on his head from time to time - he thinks they help distract from the hearing aid in his ear. Not sure why he's so ashamed of it though. Most elderly people have them - no big deal.
