What do you do with your stuff when selling a house/ moving ?
Last time I did was 2003 and I had more money then. I was able to buy the new larger place 1st for cash and move my stuff the 30 miles away then sell the old place.

I have a lot more furniture type stuff now that won't be practical to move 1,000 miles or more. I can't even hold a Tag/ yard/ estate sale in a condo setting.

Do you take what you want and put it in storage for a month before the closing ?

I can't take stuff like couches, bureaus, bed, TV's, etc.

I'm thinking rent an Uhaul trailer that I pull with my F-150 ? I'm not crazy about pulling a trailer from CT to Florida or Nevada or wherever, but I guess no choice there.

It will be horrible with a cat too ! She hates a 15 minute car ride.

If you can not or do not want to take it with you , consider donating it to a couple of different places( purple heart,MS ,Goodwill, ) whatever. They will usually pick up at your curb. Make sure they give you a blank slip to fill out so you can mark down what you donated and it's worth. If you do this 2 or 3 times to various organizations, you will be able to fill in the amounts that the items are worth. The actual price you put down is up to you.Check with your accountant for the proper max value of what fits your 1040 for this year.
Will save you 25-30% of total value on your taxes.

      Doug-

You moving? When and where and why? Most have missed something? You staying with wife?

Have moved 4 times in last 4 years. Hate it more and more everytime, its awful. Actually pay a moving company to do most of it but packing, unpacking, driving animals (cat is horribile also). Whole things makes me sick thinking about it. If I had it my way we would toss out lots of stuff but wife won't let me. Seems like each time more and more stuff gets tossed just not sure where everything keeps coming from.

Moving is 100% for sure, probably will take the wife.

I have to get it down to what I can tow. More later, have to go now.

I certainly have to lose stuff like sofas and dining room table, bed, etc.

I want to keep stuff like tools and clothes, still way more than fits in an F-150 with a tonneau cover....so A Uhaul trailer is where I'm at....A trailer for the F-150, want the truck still.

Cat and wife will be hard to move, really hard with the cat, but both will whine. I guess I can toss the cat in her car, but she will get lost following me.

            This won't be easy !

Moving gets so much harder as you get older ! I have so much more damn stuff now, moving does force you to purge the stuffage.

I'm thinking about going to the local swap meet sort of thing on weekends to sell some stuff I'll never be able to keep.

Keep the stuff I'm unable to part with....sell, junk or leave the rest.

I think that would be too expensive but I did think of that. I think I'll just sell everything. I couldn't even bring a pod into my condo parking lot and I don't know where it is going either. With a trailer I could check out Hilton Head, if I don't like go to Biluxi, etc.

I'm most likely going to sell the place with a 55" ( or so) Plasma mounted on the wall to convey.
