PREDICTION

I cannot phathom Puerto Rico even being fortunate or lucky enough to pull off even a draw in regulation time in this spot against a very talented team from the MLS.

Lay the wood and cheese in this one folks, up to -290

L.A Galaxy without injured Beckham, plus 4 Galaxy players - Landon Donovan, Edson Buddle, Omar Gonzalez and Donovan Ricketts - were selected to the First XI for the MLS All-Star Game against Manchester United. All 4 players are part of the first 11 players elected to the All-Star Game, the game, to be played at Reliant Stadium in Houston on July 28th.
The timing of tonight's game figures to be difficult, to say the least, considering Arena and the Galaxy's four MLS All-Stars - Edson Buddle, Landon Donovan, Omar Gonzalez and Donovan Ricketts - will fly to Houston immediately after the game to take part in Wednesday's MLS All-Star game against Manchester United. Arena will be coaching the squad. Then they will return to Los Angeles to prepare for Sunday's MLS game against the Chicago Fire. "The All-Star Game is secondary to this," Arena said. "How they schedule it like that and why, I don't really know. There's not a whole lot I can do about it anyway. Our objective is to get through this game comfortably and position this team to advance into group play. "The first leg is critically important."

Prediction

Look for the Islanders to play a defensive game, packing it tight, and striking like a cobra when the Galaxy are not set in the back. While Puerto Rico is a step down in talent from San Jose, it does not necessarily mean that this is a team that knows how to capitalize on opportunity.

But what will be the ultimate winner in this first leg...is depth.

"We have a lot of games ahead of us," Arena said after the match with San Jose. "There's no other way to get guys minutes. Kovalenko hasn't played in a long time."—his last appearance was in the second game of the season on April 1, when he suffered a strained right hamstring—"and we have no other way to move him along and get him ready and play and contribute. He has to play.

"Leonardo is an excellent defender and we need to put him in there.

There's going to be situations in a couple of months where we need to rotate our center backs and our holding midfielders. We have to play these players...there's no other way to get them in position as we move forward to help our team. We can't have a situation where six weeks down the road we have a suspension or injury and expect our guys to step on the field and not miss a beat. They had to play."

Glad didn't bet on this game...when I saw 1.27 for win or 1.77 for -1.5 I said
"puck it"...is not worth it. That's why people are better off taking a baseball over/under where they have 50% chances of winning and better odds...instead this puckin' soccer where you normally have 1 chance out of 3.
