What the hell are you talking about Betplom? I've been busy beating you down in the other thread. You watch a movie and suddenly you're an "expert" on our healthcare system.
I keep reading all these Anti-American threads so I figured I'd throw in my Anti-Canadian just to stir the pot.

Actually, this speaks volumes about the sensibilities of Canadian women, have you seen what JJ looks like?
American women that take their pants off easily?
Were these poor Jersey ghetto girls that hadn't been to a doctor (gynecologist) in years 'cause they couldn't afford it?
JJ did you tell them you were a gynecologist offering a free exam? Sly dog.

This is all true except the part about the coffee. Canada has way better weed than that Mexican Swag, and the beer is much better than the American swig water. The TV does suck, but if you get Directv, you can get pass card and not pay for it with little recorse from the law. The sub-zero weather around the Edmonton area sucks though, but that's what the beer and weed are for. I seem to have no problem getting into Canadian Girls pants, its all technique. I make these statements as a person who works partly in Canada (in Windsor better known as the good side of Detroit) and in the U.S.(near philly now known as the city that loves you back.)
I have to admit, when I travel abroad to Europe or even Asia for work, I usually wear my Canadian flag shirt or a Canadian hockey team jersey, just so I don't get lumped into the nasty American stereotype that runs rampant in just about every country that I have visited.
I have to ask though, whats the deal with the French side of Canada near Montreal? It's like another country, completely different from the rest.

A group of french explorers discovered an area around New Brunswick, after the britsh had landed. The french and english both slaughtered lots of indians and claimed land for thier own. The english didnt really fight the indians, the english kinda made the indians make a deal. Anyways french people suck. I dont like french and i never liked learning it in school. I wish i couldve learned Spanish.

I once was in Cuba. Many Europeans go there despite the long hours on the plane getting there. I was totally surprised as for their main reason they go to Cuba. Stupid me , I thought it was for the weather and their fabulous beaches, cigars , history.. etc . The main concensus on why they vacation there was that they will not find any "Americans" there. True!!

You should probably know what you are talking about before spouting off! "Free Health Care"??? I work in the US and live in Canada and pay 3 times the amount of income tax, I also pay $600/year for OHIP, the 'free' health care.
I refuse to use Canadian health care and I go to the US for my doctors visits. I once requested a family doctor here in Canada and I was told the waiting list was SEVEN YEARS!!!! The emergency room is filled with people with no doctor and a case of the sniffles! The people I know that are fortunate enough to have a doctor have to wait 3 months to see them! I have an American doctor and I get in the SAME DAY every time! I will never have to go on a waiting list for heart surgery or die on any waiting list for surgery. I pay about $30/month for my US health care and it's well worth it. My son had an operation at the MAYO Clinic for $19.
OHIP may not be bad if you live in Toronto, but anywhere else...it sucks! I've had friends die because of the low quality of care. Just recently my friend's dad died of cancer while on a waiting list when it would have been successfully treated if he did not have to wait. I'll pay the $30/month.

Some of this is right and some isnt.
It is correct that in some places it is tough to get a family doctor. Many have sold out. But there are a ton of clinics in every city.
You can pay $30 every month all you want. The fact is that in the USA the insurance company decides if you get the operation, not the doctor. In Canada, the doctor doesnt need approval for anything.
Oh, by the way. If you want things between you and your doctor to be confidencial in the states, forget about it. The doctor has to have the time approved by your insurance company. He will report everything to them. something like...."Potsie, is developing skin irratations...there is a small chance it could be cancerous." Then watch that $30/month become $150/month.

Tough to get a family doctor? I would say 7 year waiting list is a little more than tough.
A ton of clinics in every city??? Have you been to every city? There is one here that is open about 8 minutes every day and you have about an 8 hour wait to see a doctor. I've sat in the emergency room here on multiple occasions and waited over 4 hours each time. Pack a lunch and lots of hand sanitizer. There are people here that go to the hospital and actually get flesh eating disease! My father-in-law has a tumor, but the doctors cannot find it, and they seem perfectly fine with that. The Canadian public has grown accustomed to this low quality of care and they don't know any different. Just last month a Canadian couple was sent to Minnesota to have their babies, because Manitoba could not handle the birth of triplets.
My doctor does not require approval for any test, procedure, or anything! My doctor and I make the decisions not the insurance company! If you think the doctors in Canada don't get pressure from the government to reduce costs then you are living in fantasy land.
My health insurance is level and stays the same forever. I have the choice between US health care and OHIP or both. I choose US health care! I already pay for OHIP and I choose to go to the US. I'm thankful that I live on the border. I don't want to die on a waiting list! Neither the US or Canadian system are perfect, but the American system is far superior to the Canadian. If it weren't I would use OHIP!

Dude, what city is it that you live in that only has 1 clinic? If you live in ALB, SASK, or MAN than it is your own fault. What highly skilled professional that went to med school for 8 to 10 years wants to live in Flin Flon or Saskatoon??? Sask and Alberta have bilboards here trying to get people to live there.
Border towns like Windsor, Sarnia, Niagara Falls all have hospitals where the wait times are fairly low. Here in London we have 5 hospitals and in the yellow pages there are like 30 clinics.
I will admit that the nurses, atleast from my experiance are extremely lazy and arent well educated.
Why would a doctor in Canada get pressue to reduce costs? these "costs" have already been paid for. When you get treatment, that cost has been "pre paid".
When you have any procedure in the US that cost is coming out of the insurance companies profit. you are eating into the bottom line of the company. Insurance companies have people that are paid to cancel legit claims. and American doctor are at the mercy of these insurance companies.
Lets say that your doctor sends a claim into your insurance and it says "Potsie has prostate cancer and needs an operation. He needs this operation within 1 year."
#1. If your premiums arent at the cost of your operation, you will be waiting the longest period of time inorder to have that operation, so that you are covering as much of the cost as possible. Basically making you pay for as much of the operation as possible.
#2. You will be waiting behind people who have paid more into the system than you. It is like a line up, with the people with the worst coverage at the back. If you are at the back of the line you will eventually get moved to the front, but people who have better plans are always getting inserted ahead of you.

Thank you for making my point. Your level of care should not be dependent upon the size of the city you live in. I travel 5 minutes to a city of 15,000 in the US and receive excellent care.

There is no "line" in the US. My son had a doctor appointment one day and an operation the very next day. This was not an emergency either. I KNOW people in Canada that have died on a waiting list for BYPASS SURGERY!! I use the US system so don't tell me that others get 'inserted ahead of me' it's simply not factual! Quit trying to say that Socialized Medicine is so great, it stinks! I will never use it, even though I pay for it.

Potsie,i don't know if you are old enough to remember going to the doctor here in canada prior to 1993?
The reason why i ask is because of all the problems that you talk about DID NOT EXIST BEFORE!!
The health care system was well funded and there was plenty of hospital beds and doctors to meet the demand in most of our major centers throughout the land.Than that scumbag ,sack of shit, crooked mouth, dishonest ,god-dammed frog mother f*cker CHRETIEN was elected on the promise that he wasn't going to cut the canadian social safety net by 24% as the previous assh*les propose to do.
But our f*ck face PEPPER made across board cuts of 50% in the the first year, another 50% the 2nd yr,and another 50% in the third year!!Let's say for argument sake that the budget was $1.00 when froggy got in,he cut it down to 50 cents, than the next year 25 cents and finally 12.5 cents. This as been what the health care budget as been since!, a shell of it previous self!!.Take any institution be it private or public cut it's budget to a little bit more than 10% of its original funding and see what you get.I believe well over 1 million hospital beds have been close around the country and 10000 doctors have left for the states since that piece of shit took power and have never been replace by the other scumbags whom came after him. That is why now OUR once great health care system is now the laughing stock of the civilize world !!
Good luck to you and take care of yourself.
