Internet poster busted for Columbine comment
Anyone see this story today? What a farce. Yes, what the guy said was wrong, but how do you get arrested for this? What happened to Free Speech and the First Amendment? This was no threat to anyone.

You're telling me this is the only guy to ever praise the Columbine shooters on the Internet? You'd have a courtroom full of people if they did that.

They won't go forward with this prosecution, no way, but the guy is embarrassed. He should sue the police for false arrest. I can't believe this. Unreal.

That is so ridiculous. Those Wisconsin police must be awfully bored to actually entertain that type of complaint and take action. I'm glad no one has linked those potbellied, donut eating saps to our Private zone!

I like how the blogger quickly caved and provided the IP address. You're right, they must be pretty bored to chase that information down. Seriously, I can't believe this case. I thought it was a joke.

What a crock of shit. I hope they take care of those prosecutors one shot at a time.

        Am I next?

The prosecutors aren't to blame. They likely will not pursue the case. The police dept. that decided to arrest this guy should be sued, and the officers who acted on the complaint fired.

Someone called the police, who in turn found out the blogger's location. The blogger then gave up the poster's IP address, which allows them to trace his location.

The blogger was near Milwaukee, Wis., and the poster was in the state, so they traveled to that town and arrested the guy.

Whether any of this was done with a court order is not known. In other words, if the blogger didn't cave, they wouldn't pursue it unless they had a court order demanding the IP address.

People think they are anonymous on the Internet, but they are easily traced if you post something criminal.

I saw a movie "Bowling for Columbine" I would like the director arrested right away! Mostly for wasting my time!

I'm from Milwaukee, and yes the cops are bored!

You do realize there are more Bars per person in Cudahy then anywhere on the planet. He might of just tied one on before posting.

Why? DId Michael Moore hold a gun to your head and force you to sit there and watch the movie?

Maybe it's different up in Wisconsin, but I can't imagine cops here in Texas going out and arresting someone here for the same offense without some direction from the DA's office. Personally, I hope they throw the book at this bum. Like the article noted, what he said was no different than joking about having a bomb at an airport or yelling fire in a movie theater.

I'm not defending what the guy said. It was bad, especially since he's a teacher. But the big picture. How many people have praised the Columbine killers, Charles Mansion and other killers with praise? Thousands. Do we arrest them all?

I disagree on the airport comparison from the cop. Nobody is going to get hurt from an Internet comment, unlike yelling fire in a movie theater or bomb at the airport. Those also cost money since the police will investigate.

It's not like he encouraged anyone to go out and commit a crime against a teacher.

Oh really? LINK I'm sure the adult who started that hoax will use the same defense in her eventual civil trial, that she didn't 'encourage anyone.'

Guess I'm confused, Paul. You seemed to imply that you didn't think this guy should be arrested, yet you wanted Michael Moore arrested for his movie?
