    Costa Rica Casinos
I hear Fiesta Casino in San Jose (by the airport) is the mian casino. True?

Any other casinos that are decent? I know of the Del Rey casino, but never played there.

Do the casinos in San Jose comp drinks? Any special do's or don'ts I shoudl know about? Do the casino follow BJ rules?

I know in Panama (at the Veneto at least) you can double down on 3 cards and not 2 like it is in Vegas.

    Fill me in.

Rummy is more popular than blackjack. Rummy does not pay out 3 to 2 for a 21. It's just a standard payout, but there are additional ways to win with rummy. For instance, getting 3 7s in a row, etc. Casinos will have at least 1 blackjack table, though. The Fiesta by the airport is probably the biggest/best casino, and yes it does serve free drinks. There is also a casino in the Cariari Hotel a few minutes up the road.

The Del Rey casino is alright, but it takes forever to cash out when you win anything over $100. You have to wait for them to review the security tapes.

There's also the Horseshoe casino that is diagonal to the Del Rey. Good place to watch sports upstairs.

Next door to the Del Rey casino is Casino Colonial. They used to take sports betting action, but I don't know if they still do.

Thanks Chili..... waiting for security tapes to be reviewed must be a real PITA for those playing there. ALso wasn';t aware that Rummy was so big there. I guess I shoudl learn to play rummy as I don't know a thing about the game.

Is there live entertainment at the Fiesta casino? Also do you have to go outside from the Del Rey to get to the Horseshoe or are they attached?

Yah, it's highly annoying waiting for the security tapes, and for such a low dollar amount, too. Rummy is played the same as blackjack, so there's nothing really to learn. You just don't get paid 3 to 2 if you hit a 21, and they have the bonus 'rummy' hands, which they'll explain to you at the casino, or you can look it up online.

Fiesta sometimes has live entertainment. There's a big bar at the back of the casino, opposite from the table games. Ton of slot machines.

Yes, you have to leave Del Rey to go to the horseshoe or casino colonial. The Horseshoe is not affiliated with the horseshoe in vegas. They use a very similar sign, but not related at all. The Del Rey and Horseshoe are both on opposite street corners, while the Casino Colonial is right next to the Del Rey, but you will have to go outside to go to either business.

Is it safe to walk outside from establishment to establishment at night?

Any ho's at the fiesta casino? Just curious.

It's relatively safe, yes. There is a small horde of people trying to sell you drugs, women, fake cigars, fake rolexes, etc., that like to congregate right outside Del Rey. If you're only going from Del Rey to Horseshoe or Casino Colonial, then you can walk. It's literally a 10-15 second walk to either establishment. If you're going further than a block away at night, I would take a cab.

I'm sure there are ho's at the Fiesta, but you won't see them. A lot of ticos go there to gamble away their money, it's a rather popular spot, and the most Vegas-style casino here.
