    Is Racing Considered a Sport?
    Hi Guys

Acarmelo1 is Back from its vacations. Its time to start posting again.

I sometimes encounter this question my self.

    Is Racing a Sport?

Is Nascar or Formula 1 a Sport?

I understand that olympic racing on bikes or on foot is a sport, cause Human Effort is involved.

But Driving or Riding a Horse involves such effort?

Will You consider this as a Sport?

no because driving a car doesnt involve athletic ability

good hand/eye coordination. a little like playing video games except you do have to deal with high g forces sometimes

do you consider madden tournaments a sport?

also horse racing. if something else (machine or animal) is doing the work then it isnt a sport. its like a game. driving a car around a track like manipulating controls on a playstation or xbox.

you can call it a sport if you can consider being sweaty and getting tennis elbow from turning left all day

Video Games tournaments are sports? People "Train" for those Madden Tournaments a lot.

you're asking a question or telling me?

if you think playing video games is a sport then racing is a sport too. you train a lot for all kinds of stuff but to me that doesnt make them sports.

race car drivers have to train just like people competing in video games have to train. but neither of them are athletes

I agree with you, is there is no physical human effort involved it should not be a sport.

I view a sport as competition. Although race car drivers are not "athletes" per say, it requires a great deal of skill to race side by side with someone at 180mph. The people who make it sound like racing with 42 other cars at Daytona is the same as their morning commute in their Hyundai Sonata piss me off to no end.

Of course it's not the same.

NASCAR drivers are the best at what they do, same as anything else.

But, like horse racing, requiring skill does not make it a sport.

In the way that I define "sport", then yes it is. Sport is a very loose term, and how each person defines it is up to them. Do golfers need to be in tip top shape to play in the PGA? No, not really. But golf is still a sport. Even the World Series of Poker is a sport in my eyes, as it is competitors trying to compete for the right to be a champion.

Basically, anything competitive that requires a "skill" to be successful is a sport, to me anyway.

No. There is no simulltaneous offense and defense happening, nor is there any kind of real time scoring.
