Of course it's safe so long as you avoid the bad areas, which is not hard to do. It's a huge city, all the violence is drug stuff in the ghettos. It's not like people are getting shot randomly downtown. I don't think I've seen a story of a single "tourist" being killed. Do the usual tourist stuff and it's as safe as anywhere.

Chicago is a dangerous place but depends on where you are at. I know Chi_Archie is on the Westside and although there are some nice areas, you do not wanna get caught on Madison Ave on a Friday night. And Fish, the National Guard being called in is old news. 2 cops have been killed in broad daylight and they were getting off of their shift. These people are running up to fully clothed officers and trying to rob them. I'm not worried though, anybody comes near me they will meet me and my little chrome friend

total nonsense. If you hang out in drug infested areas, which are now MUCH more spread out thanks to tearing down the projects..you will encounter HARD CORE criminals...otherwise its like disney land

I don't live in the city, but traveled thru the ghettos in my high school basketball days....lots of bad spots. watching our varsity team get destroyed by lavar seals at providence st mel, also playing against studs like justin cerasoli/shaunn pruitt...pruitt dropped 32 on me as a freshmen. Then they both transferred to West Aurora and put on a show against us there also.

I'm in Joliet currently which is far south west...about 25 minutes from soldier field. Theres crime here, definitely not a place to be hanging around outside at night

Yea, I know a broad from there. A lot of the "project" folks have left the city and have gone to places such as Joliet and other suburbs. It's cheaper living out there obviously.

Yep....there are some nice places out here, and bolingbrook which was rated as the 52 best city to live in the U.S is a stone throw away. My neighborhood is nice, but you travel towards downtown Joliet and it gets sketchy. Where my parents live, they moved a section 8 housing into there, and a couple of my buddies lived there straight outta high school, because it was cheap as fukk....lots of drugs being dealt outta there.

I saw that about Bolingbrook, which is hard to believe that it's a better town than Naperville. My cousin was born and raised in Bolingbrook so I know that area pretty well. It can be pretty dark if ya know what I mean.

Yep we used to play bolingbrook and romeoville in basketball...I know what you mean. I used to play flag football in bolingrook, lots of brothers down there. I was very shocked to see it ranked, I would of never thought. They do have a nice strip club down there though, but it isn't fully nude.

But yea Naperville is very nice, I don't care for the yuppies, but lots of nice restaurants, but the bar scene isn't my cup of tea, I'm more into dive bars with 2 dollar beers.

Dont go to the west side projects and parts of the south side and you are good to go. That leaves the rest MAIN part of the city that is completely fine. I will walk around almost anywhere downtown at any part of the night.

90% of the city is fine.... but the bad parts are real bad... but even that gets overblown, as long as you aren't out way late at night, doing foolish stuff you'll be fine.

You conduct yourself like a man you get treated like a man. You should be able to walk anywhere in the world if your not afraid of another man that bleeds just like you. People smell fear. If you are afraid of some area you have no business being there. It's real simple. Don't take shitt from anyone and conduct yourself in a manner where no one can ever call you a bitch or a snitch. If your the type that is more likely to call 911 than deal with the situation yourself you will get weeded out. The hood has it's own darwinism. If this sounds like something that you can't get with than I suggest North side for you. Wicker Park - Wrigleyville - lincoln park - South Suburbs - North Suburbs. Simple as that.
