Any hopes of legalized sports betting in United States
posted this in other thread, but felt it needed to be read by all:

i have tons of hope that sports betting will be legal in all 50 United States within 5 years. is Vegas already dying?

here are the things i can legally bet on in Pennsylvania

    Harness Racing
Thoroughbred Racing, regardless of where the track is located in the United States
The Stock Market (the most corrupt and fixed betting in the world)
    Slot Machines
    Balckjack
    Video Poker
    Craps
    Roulette
    3-Card Poker
    Hold 'em
    Hold 'em Bonus
    Baccarat
Even a wheel of fortune game like at fukking fairs
    and of course the Lottery.

but forget about placing a wager on a baseball or football game because gambling is bad and we must be protected from ourselves.

I say online poker will come first followed by online casinos.......but the question remains, how long before sports? There's obviously a certain stigma attached. Fishy, what say you? How many years for sports to be legalized?

it is the one positive of an economy in the toilet and not getting better anytime soon. some states are getting pounded and will be forced to pursue alternative avenues of income.

i don't think you can get one without the other. if online poker is legalized, then Vegas will have the window it needs to get a nearly 50 year old law scraped.

i'm just sick of the fake arguments politicians and others use to keep it in the shadows. if i earn my money, which i do, then i should have the freedom to do as i see fit. and if i am a stupid fukk, which i may be, then i will end up destitute giving handjobs for cash. just don't use this moral argument bullshit while pushing the Lottery on citizens with "you could be next" ads.

and fukk the NFL too. nice stance. legal gambling would be worse than the illegal gambling that occurs now. and some legal gambling is good, but more is bad?

        still hoping 5 years, max.

IOWA is on the verge of legalzing sportsbetting that would be on par or better than that of VEGAS.

Stay tuned for developing stories on this over the next several months.

i love your optimism but florida poker isn't going to overtake vegas
and iowa sportsbetting is NEVER going to be "on par or better than" vegas

i have been to most of the iowa casinos and i can assure you that the guys there are going to bet $5 and $10

I think it means by what you mean by a "matter of time"...

The pragmatist in me says there is simply too much money to be made in a time the economy is struggling for this not to happen...

I do think it will eventually happen (like legalizing marijuana and taxing the hell out of it) but I'm not at all sure it will happen in the next five years...

                It has already..........wakeup dude.

At just one casino last evening(HR in Tampa), there were 40+ tables going with no less than 3 with over ONE MILLION on the table.

Again, many do not know it yet, but on July 1st the state of Florida blew past Vegas in poker.

I can only imagine what is happening in the many venues in and around the Miami area.

                  One example......just ONE mind you........

My buddy was playing Hollywood HARD ROCK(FtLauderdale) and some guy came to the table(10-20 NL I think) and bought in for $750,000 and proceeded to go all-in on every hand.

Florida poker has to be seen to believe.

3 tables with a million bucks on the table in tampa? really?

wow i sit corrected, but that is still more than the entire population of iowa has in the bank combined

even with that craziness much more poker is being played in vegas

i'm shocked that 3 tables in tampa could each have over a million bucks in play at the same time, i have spent a lot of time down there and i would never imagine that kind of money flying around

cheers and good luck if you're playing in those games, that's much too rich and crazy for my blood

I thought for sure the monkey would get it done. But as we now know he is just a tool for the powers that be. Eventually sportsbetting will be legalized.

be nice to find a politician with enough balls then to tell the NFL that since they have such a strong stance against legalized sports betting, that all sports betting in the NFL will be outlawed, including the currently legal stuff in Vegas. no other sport, just the NFL. i would love to see what percentage of NFL's popularity is directly related to gambling. SNF and MNF might exist without gambling, but the ratings sure would be lower.

fukkin lying douchebags. gambling would hurt the integrity of the game. okay, steroids, cheating coaches, drug arrests, DUIs, killing a man or a woman is okay? can't believe media types let Goodell get away with acting as if millions of dollars aren't gambled in illegal fashion on NFL weekly. so the legalization and monitoring of all wagering activity is worse than the criminal element currently required?

NFL doesn't give a fukk about the integrity of the game. It's about the money and control. If SB is legalized they would have to give up both. Monopolies don't like that in my experience .

                                  good point mrmarket

gambling is the main reason the nfl has become the #1 sport here

otherwise look back in history, baseball and boxing were it until people started betting on football with locals
