98 ford taurus, i have a 2008 taurus also but going on a 1 hr drive later and it almost overheated last time . No lights came on and the gage never went up. I think the engine was hot.

I opened it up and no idea where u put water, i think its the upper left area. At least i hope because i just put some water in it. It didnt say what it was, it was probaly the wind shield wiper area.

Last time i had a flat which was years ago i had to have a women pull over and fix it for me

I had this happen to me a few weeks ago. And my car completely shut off. You can put water in the radiator or where the engine coolant goes. But i knew that the engine coolant was where my fluids was very low at. I put like 2 gallons of water in and it workd. I have a 90 camaro so dont take my word on it. We do have 2 different vehicles.

Your next post will be,why did the block in my car crack?Never ever put straight water in the expansion tank, you have to add the correct glycerin to water mixture according to the specs.Unfortunatly we don't live in the sixties anymore.

You'll want to add water to the radiator. Do not remove the radiator cap if the engine is still hot. If it continues to overheat after the water it might just be your thermostat, if you are lucky. Couple dollar fix if that is the case.

The "pressure cap" is where you add water.

your engines coolant is a "sealed system" if it needs water there is a problem somewhere.....take it to your local mechanic have them look at it ..... will be cheaper in the long run

You don't add water. You add coolant. And don't try to open the pressure cap when it's hot.

                    Gambling car

This guy is a true gambler, I can relate too.

The van overheats, love it when sitting in traffic and smoke comes from the fukkin hood of the car

You see it in the older car and most of guys that get out of the car cursing are gamblers

Don't put cold water in engine when it over heats it will crack the block. Let it cool first.

man so many wild answers, how come i see people sometimes adding water when it overheats. I still don't know where you put it. Just asking in case i need to later. Last time it overheated it was white smoke.

You can add water now but you have to flush it out and add coolant before winter/it freezes.

You put the water and coolant ( if desired) in your radiator.

Your radiator should be in the front of your engine as soon as you lift the hood. Take the cap off and add water until it start over flowing.

The engine coolant reservoir is on the left-side of the engine compartment. When the engine is COLD - you can unscrew the cap and add the proper 50/50 mix of coolant/anti-freeze and water. Those are the barest of basics - BUT - you really need to know all the other information, including warnings, you should be familiar with.So refer to the Owners Manual for your specific model year. There are excellent engine compartment diagrams to help with not only the coolant, but oil, Transmission Fluid, washer solvent, and much more. For the 2000 Sable/Taurus, start on page 150, and then skip out to page 157 for the discussion specific to engine coolant. For convenient links to FREE copies of Owners Manuals, check out the "Related Questions" below.remove the radiator cap or recovery tank cap depending on the year.I found on older models you fill it just about to the top of the radiator, start the vehicle let idle, turn the heat on full and let car get to operating temp.grab the upper radiator hose it should be hot to the touch this means your thermostat is now open.look inside your radiator and top off if needed.do not get to close if the systems burps it could backflow coolant through the radiator and cause severe burns

about an hour ago i popped the hood and with the water hose sprayed the entire thing for like ten seconds, the silver part around the engine didn't enjoy it i think

I'll go look now if i don't burn my hand

Still trying to figure out where i put water earlier, it was an area on left side near the passenger area around the back of the hood

You got that right. It sounds to me like a few people around here need to turn in their man cards. Also, anti-freeze ( ethylene glycol ) will freeze unless it is combined in correct proportions with water. You need to read the label.

Man this is the sort of stuff they should teach at school...But if all that was needed was a cup of water to fill it, then that means you arent losing any coolant, its maybe the coolant isnt making its way throughout the engine...You can put water, just make sure you empty it and fill it with antifreeze for winter.
