Does Philly have a real shot here?

Philly has no shot at all. They will be in deep cap trouble if they don't watch themselves.

This Kovalchuk issue is dragging on way too long. He's not a Crosby or Ovechkin, but the team who overpays for him will feel it in 2-3 years time when they realize that all he can do is shoot.

Kovalchuk is holding up many trades signings.

      Carter for Kaberle???

I hear yo on holding up trades/signings. I am waiting for BB to trade Kaberle and make other moves to get us in the playoffs. I hope Kovalchuk signs with a KHL team. If teams really wanted him he woudl have beed signed on July 1.

And yes Kovalchuk is a Douchebag. BTW Kovy has always been used to refer to Alexei Kovalev and not Kovalchuk.

I was hoping for some kind of scenario where Carter goes and Giguere comes in. I don't see it though. If anyone goes looks like it will be Gagne since they asked him to waive his no trade clause.

He apparently has not agreed to waive his NTC. Intersting times in Philly land.

They are also on the verge of signing Zherdev for 1 year.

Flyers are operating like there is no cap at all. I like it.

Well in a sense, but still they did get Gagne to waive his clause.

A stud goalie would be so key here, but hey - we've all only been saying that for 20 years now.

                        Steve,

                        Here it is:

"Sticking with the Flyers/Gagne situation, he raised eyebrows Thursday when he told media in his native Quebec that contrary to reports out of Philadelphia last week, he has not agreed to waive his no-trade clause.

"I have a no-trade clause and I haven't removed it," Gagne said in French on RDS (the French sister network of TSN). "But certainly the Flyers have cap issues and I'm a player with one year left on my deal ... The next few days will maybe help us find out what's going to happen in my case."

It might just be semantics here. Once the Flyers go to Gagne with a trade, and it's a team he is OK with, he'll surely waive it. The Kings might have some interest if they determine once and for all they're not signing Kovalchuk. Gagne has one year left on his deal at $5.25 million."
