Anyone ever had Hamate Removal Surgery

Seriously, recovery/rehab is 4-6 weeks...

Go ahead and get the surgery if you need it. It won't get better w/o it.

I prob fractured it in college playing baseball... just got worse playing softball a few times a week, the bone is healed over, but has spurs or jagged edges that i'm aggravating with softball and weightlifting apparently..

I want to have a regular active life until the day I die, so I figure I might as well get this done. been grinning and baring the pain for a decade

Most of the hamate injuries I've seen/diagnosed have come from swinging the bat in baseball. So, your history is pretty typical. Make sure you get a dedicated hand guy to do the surgery...

Yes he is ... never forget when him and Bateman were going back and forth about 2 years ago about the dangers of steroid use

Dude, get several opinions. Early 30's had wrist pain. Hard work and tons of sports and needed fusions in both. Lost all the cartilage in the scaphoid and 4 hand surgeons said I needed total fusions. Went to Mayo,they had 20 hand surgeons, and I used the directoer for my surgery. He did a scaphoid excision-4 bone fusion in both my wrists. Was pain free and still able to play pro softball and state rated racquetball after. Lost 50% motion. This was in the early 90's. I am sure tech. has changed a bit. They are doing full wrist replacements now. I have severe arthritis now and go for cort. injections every 3 months or so. Make sure you do your research. PM me if you need some info as I know several outstanding surgeons around the country who could help you out.

Yes, I am a real doctor.

I mean an orthopedist who specializes in hands. Most big groups have a "hand guy". Make sure you get the best hand guy wherever you live. If you know some medical folks, ask them who the best hand guy is. They'll be happy to tell you. BOL...

thanks alot, i'm nervous as it is... just deciding to do it... I might as well take my time and get a real good guy because it will affect the next 50 years of my life... $ is not an object, i'm sure there are great guys here in chicago
