I think that I've tried just about everything to make the place cooler-------I have 3 fans on--air condition is expensive and not an option(when I was a kid,I lived without one)----I guess things could be worse--

Yes buy the AC unit for $300. Or go swimming. Or go to the movies, watch like 3 movies.

How is your computer doing with no A/C and you sweating like a pig while typing? Is it overheating and the keyboard is wet?

Fix up your basement. I turned mine into basically an extra apartment (w/o bathroom, kitchen, etc of course) and I pretty much live down here for the majority of summer season. Nothing like stayin cool without driving up your electrical bill!
I mean it could be freakin 150 degrees outside but it stays below 70 down in this bitch anyway! Gotta love it!

the laptop is hot but ok--(underneath the laptop is really hot)---the problem is- the temperature is like 95-100 for 5-6 straight days----1 or 2 days is tolerable but 5-6 days is extreme

The problem with the basement is that it's not made to be an apartment--it's damp and musty---when I feel like I can't breathe,I go to the basement for relief

you really need one of those to cool your computer...I find one at TJaxx with two fans for $15.
I don't use the AC at all ( at home) in CT. I grew up without it. I will use it in a car though.

no problem. My computer fan stop working a month ago...so I clean it and I got out all kind of stuff...mostly dust and cat hair, the fan was completely blocked by that mess. After I clean it the fan start spinning again. My laptop is 4 years old and I never cleaned the fan.
So I understand that is hot in your home...but your fan might also rotate slower because of some dust...so make sure it's working properly.

source ?
I could see 8% of US energy being used on US AC but not the US using 8% of the world's electric power for AC.

I'm at library right now in AC. My apt in Morristown, NJ is about 105 inside right now. No AC. Would go to bar to watch World Cup, but studying for bar exam. This heat is absolutely brutal. Can't even think straight when I am in my place.

I have lots of windows and doors with screens I can open, and I'm close to the beach so I get a good flow thru breeze and run some fans.
If I was more inland like Hartford, I'd be nearer my limit of not needing AC. I can take 95 degrees with a breeze passing through.
I needed cooling when I lived in Vegas, at least a swamp cooler.
I need it in a highway driven car, can't stand windows open at 65 mph +.

I agree with JJ about NJ---- I was born in NY--- moving to Jersey was a big mistake except for going to the shore and checking out the hot women.---extension chord? I don't know if there's one that's long enough

I have dysphagia(swallowing disorder that stroke victims get).I vomit up my food all of the time(not bulimic)--I have digestive problems(I take a Canadian medication-they don't make it in the US)--not to mention, this stuff gives you anxiety but I handle it well because I'm used to it.You would look at me and never know.( I look good for my age and hide my problems)--not to mention my girlfriend left her conditioner in the bathtub--I slipped and fractured my ribs--3 weeks ago---seems like when it rains,it pours--I also have acid reflux--you think acid reflux--lots of people have it--I have an extreme case.I registered in the 98th percentile with a 48 hour ph monitor test.I choke on the acid 24 7---any stress, food, etc makes it worse---that's why I come to SBR for a little R and R( not to mention parents died early 53 and 40)----adversity makes you tough.
