dont think reds are a surprise, most ppl who know the nl central thought they were gonna be a contender...have to say SD is far and away exceeding expectations....far as disappointment once again not sure how many ppl thought the scrubbies would be good, they probably even worse than expected but not surprising they are bad....Sea could be the biggest disappointment as lot of folks thought they were gonna compete in the al west..

Cincy is a surprise for sure they were supposed to be decent but not leading; More specifically Mike Leake

Also have to include San Diego in there, they were supposed to be fielding offers for Bell and Gonzales now, not leading the Majors.

Include young pithcers Mat Latos, Jaime Garcia and JourneyMna Colby Lewis as pluses --

Cubs are, i guess a mild disappointment, but most people only thought the were a 500 team - Probably philly who;s 5games out would be a disspointment -

u had be believing u until u said seattle being the biggest disappointment.i will tell u this one thing.any team that has milton bradley on it could never win anything because he is such a cancer and blames every city he goes to when he struggles,so seattle was never a contender but do have to say texas is also looking pretty good especially if there pitching holds up

not sure why you guys surprised by cincy (yes leake is better than anyone really thought) but who didnt have them battling STL for the central? i know i did, they got a real good mix of young talent and vets and some nice pop in the lineup, pen is solid, to me it was clear they would be in the mix, maybe not leading the race but not shocked....SD on the other hand, who didnt have them in the basement and Gonzalez traded by the deadline? i know i did, they are very surprising and if there young arms hold up a serious threat to keep it up......

not even saying i thought sea would be great, im just saying a lot of ppl out there thought they had a chance in the west (personally i liked tex from the jump as laa not the same team), and givin where they are Lee is gonna be gone and season over by trading deadline and i dont think anyone thought they be that bad, i call that a disappointment....i think i may agree more with the poster who said Philly as disappointment now that i think about it but they have had a lot of injuries to deal with...

well lets see if cincy can hold the lead or if they will choke but do think they have pitchers if they stay healthy.can pitch for some time but u know in cincy ,the minute the contract is up they cant sign them

I would pick San Diego as the biggest surprise and how far they are leading. As 2dabank said, I expected the Reds to be contending this season and have a winning record for the first time in years. They had a lot of guys almost ready for the majors, so with the mix of them and the starters they had it was easy enough to see them having a nice year.

I thought Cincy would do well, not this well though.

                        Biggest Surprise: Padres
                        Biggest Dissapointment: Seattle

As for players I am shocked Jimenez has done what he has so far and Lincecum has been a dissapointment. The Rangers deserve some credit though, didn't think they would be 15 games over right now.

They have never needed to sign anybody since they haven't had anybody worth it forever. They locked up Phillips early on. Everybody else is starting out in Arbitration.

They won't choke, but they could still lose. It's been neck and neck for a good portion of the season. They need to stay healthy like most teams.

like i said seattle will never win anything as long as bradley is on the team, plus besides ichiro ,they really dont have a solid hitter on that team and their pitching hasnt show me much except for lee

im a STL fan so obviously i hope cincy comes up short, dont think it will have anything to do with choking though as the teams are pretty close imo and not like they have a big lead (think up a game right now) should be a interesting race all the way down the stretch, good news for Cards fans is we see the cubs a ton in the 2nd half of the season, unfortunately we have played cincy quite a bit already and dont think we have many more series with them.....

Figgins was supposed to hit .300 and spark that line up. Felix and Lee was supposed to be a lights out 1-2 punch. Casey Kotchman was supposed to hit over .206.

maybe so but whose going to get that big hit when they need it,besides ichiro they dont have any consistent hitters to step up.its like they need to win the 1-0 2-1 3-2 ball games .so i dont think they are a disappointment cause i never gave them a chance, but like the imput

Look at San Diego. Pitching, defense, and Gonzalez. If Figgins, Bradley, and Kotchman had average years they would be fine.
