    Gamblers downer after a Rush
hey gang, wow after being on a high since Thursday, I just noticed the physical effects of gambling. I just won my 5th bet Thursday going 5-1 for the holiday weekend and Im not betting anymore. I feel blue all of a sudden. I guess gambling does have a chemical effect on the ol brain. They say the reason people become addicted to gambling is that the brain releases andorfins that stimulate the brain and u know wht, I believe the DR's. I had a great run, and now I feel down. Anybody ever have this shiit happen??

YES. That's why sports betting eventually turns a person into an action junkie. It's bad sh*t.

Definitely happy boy, there is a high both ways, winning or losing. obviously you'd prefer one more than the other, sleep better and all that good stuff. but it definitely affects your brain, it is an addiction... just not necessarily a destructive one if you have good self control.

HAPPY, it is very well documented the effects gambling has on the brain... I studied up on it some as I was minoring in psychology at SC...

Straight out of my psych book...

"Because the payoff is never predictable, every instance of payoff results in a new burst of dopamine release in the nucleus accumbens, no matter how many times the person plays. Thus, gambling, like drug taking, overrides the brain's dopamine-conserving mechanism - the mechanism that shuts off dopamine response when reward is predictable"

Dopamine is what makes us "NEED" to gamble, and staying away from it makes us restless, angry, (insert symptom here). Endorphins, or that rush of excitement we get on big wins, is what we "WANT".

This explains why even when we are losing and we aren't having any fun, we still NEED more action... even if we may not really want it.

Some of us have it under control, some of us don't, but all of us feel it; we're gamblers.

damn King, nice way of explaining the feeling. Guess gambling is right there with drugs and any other type of stimulant. Ill try to keep this shiit in check.

Yeah, gambling is a drug that isn't traceable by any drug test... if you keep your finances hidden there is no way for anyone to find out about it.

As such, you should use the same rule of thumb that casual/ in control drug users do; don't let it take you over, and don't let it get in the way of everything else (your work, your girl, etc).

(Which of course is easier said then done... I'm a mess to be around on a 1 - 5 day)

When I get up on Saturday or even Sundays I will bet 50 bucks on Sunday night and 50 on MOnday night just trying to still have action but not give the money away. I feel really odd until I actually get the money in my hands then things get back to normal. I seem to deal better with losing than winning. I lose then I pay the man and there is no odd feeling other than the 60 seconds I think about all the stuff I could have bought with the money.

I cannot sleep if I do not have action on coast games, I love getting up all night and checking pc for scores

I bet $400 on Nets tonight just to extend my action after football game.

Yeh when I wake up on Mondays I feel down and lonely and need to bet and usually go to the track at 12:00PM.
