it's called a blown save...all closers have them.
I guess he's staying in the majors because he's:
1. converted 19 out of 22 save opportunities (86%)
2. has a 1.99 ERA
3. has stuck out 51 while only walking 13
I'm sorry...what were you saying???

whatsgood,
LOL..I was thinking the same thing...
Wags is the best closer we've had in a long time. Friday night, one run lead in the 9th, Marlin guy squares up a 95 mph fastball and ties the game. No problem. Shit happens. Run Wags back out there today and he does as he usually does, he seals the deal!

but k-rod really is an overrated, overpaid gas can.
i wonder what could have happened if he didn't pick bernadina off at 2nd friday night, probably would of blown that one as well.

His era is 2.63 not 1.99.
There are many closers better than him Doc. Many.

very true and out of his 19 saves, 6 are in one run games. the other 13 are by 2, 3, and some even 4 runs.
the save is a very misleading and somewhat useless stat.

The save stat costs alot of teams wins....manager wont bring a closer in when the game needs the real stop in the 7th because he wont get the save, even though thats when the real save occurs.
Instead he holds em til the ninth

Three walks in the 9th inning? Or was it 4? Pathetic. They bring you in with a 2 run lead and you walk the first man you see with 4 straight pitches? You deserve to lose.....

Their is no difference between scoring 4 runs in the 3rd inning or the 9th inning....you have 3 outs....lead changes are common in baseball since their really is no limitation...nothing new...

The stats I quoted were from MLB.com...now, its certainly possible that the combination of small print and bifocals conspired against me...or the stats hadn't yet been updated from yesterdays game... Either way 2.63 era isn't anything to sneeze at.
And the point isn't "are there better closers than him. Many". The point is K-Rod is a servicable major league closer. He blew a save yesterday. All closers do, it comes with the territory. Billy Wagner blew a save on Friday night. Even the great Mo with the Yankees has blown saves.
To start a thread that he is a fukkin joke and questioning how he's still in the major leagues (I'm guessing because a bet was lost) is childish and immature or just plain ignorant...

Franky boy was a huge juicer. Now we can see his failure.
Mariano is the greatest closer of all time.

On your first point F Rodriguez puts so much tork on his body, it'll be a wonder he lasts another 5 years. Juicing, no the way he delivers the ball, is the reason he can't build up, he'd tear cartlidge and everything else in the arm. as for the best closer of all time, it has to be Trevor Hoffman, he's played for a team that rarely sees a post season.

For me personally I don't mind a blown save, it happens. What pisses me off is when a major leaguer walks hitters and doesn't even give his team a chance to win. You're the closer and walk 3 or 4 guys in the9th inning when you are supposed to protect a lead? Fu ck you. That's what pisses me off, that's the part that is unacceptable. If they hit your best stuff and beat you, fine, I can live with that. When a guy that makes 15 million a year can't throw a strike is when you will hear me rant and rave. I started pitching at 8 years old and could throw strikes, it's really not all that hard to do. If you can't do it consistantly get out of baseball and start bagging groceries somewhere punk.
