99% of all pro players in all major sports suck.....

but I give baseball players some leeway, since they play way way more than other professional players and play in the elements day after day after day...

do I hustle to first on every pop up and ground ball in my softball games? YES....

but if I played 10x the amount of games I might dog it once in awhile, when I know that the guys on defense will make good 98.7% of the time

You don't even have to go full tilt. Just fast enough so that if the ball is dropped you will make it on base. Randy Wells didn't have to be sprinting on that play - if he had just gone 80% instead of 20% he would have been safe.

Same thing for dumbasses who think they've hit a home run and don't even move, let alone half-jog.

If you assembled a team that was full of guys like Utley and Victorino attitude-wise, and got a manager who throws away the whole concept of a closer, you'd dominate this sport.

            What's the difference archie?

Are you telling me it is -EV to make your pitcher jog 90 ft?

if he didn't jog down the line.... fuk him....

but as a manager and more so as a GM if I have a pitcher that is paid 400k to 15million.... to pitch 32 games and bat 75 times a year..... I'm gonna be okay with him concentrating on pitching and not hurting himself on the basepaths..

as I think my return on investment is better spent on him being 100% on the mound, than it is hustling out 1 or 2 extra hits and maybe....MAYBE 1 extra run out of 162 games...

but than again i'm not a MLB owner or GM....

so fuk that fuker for not running his mutha-fuking ass off on that play

Mathy, I agree that ballplayers should hustle down 1B line, but pitchers are the exception. Most of them are terrible athletes. The last thing you want is them pulling a hamstring. They're paid to throw, not to hit/run. Can you imagine what would have happened if fat asses like David Wells or Roger Clemens were admonished for not running out ground balls?

Exactly, even 80% effort would suffice on running out a grounder...if you are not a speed guy that can make routine stuff close.

Then you shouldn't have them bunting or going anywhere near the ball. What happens when a fastball hits him on the knuckles? And he can pull a muscle swinging.

I am not asking for a full sprint down the line (as if that's even much to ask). Just a fast paced jog.

Are we seriously saying this is too much to expect from a professional athlete? Many are in decent shape, and under 30. Only exceptions might be 40 year old pitchers who can't run even if they tried, or big fatasses like Sabbathia or Wells.

its just the way it is.... Randy is more than capable, he was a catcher in the minor leagues....

but i'm just not gonna get too upset if my pitcher dogs it a bit, when he is throwing a no-hitter

I saw the same thing from Garrett Anderson last night, that old piece of shit...

He grounded into a double play but the 2nd baseman tripped, got up and still threw his old ass out... What a piece of shit.

                          He wasnt even hustling.
