He should make the roster because he gives the National League a better chance to win.
Period.

Erik Bedard gives the AL a better chance to win, Strasburg did not do enough.

Who says Bedard won't make it?
Argument #1 - Strasburg is good enough to make it and gives them a better chance to win than the next guy that would get in
Argument #2 - The fans would want to see it

Bedard did not play all year but he is back from the DL next week. I will give you all my points for life if Bedard makes it.

point #2 is dead on, but you forgot the mlb itself and all the major networks want it as well.
sure someone more deserving will get left out, but this is a glorified exhibition for the fans.

Fans want to see it. Yeah but....
Is this really a smart move ? NO.
Not good for the game, the Nationals and especially the kid.
That would put him in a break even or lose position.
This is not the NBA high school circus.
Got to stop with the instant gratification mind set at some point.
Let's take a deep breath.

you raise some good points, not sure how it isn't good for the game though.
my thought was the only way he doesn't go at this point is the nats holding him out for rest (personally this is what i want to see, but i guess he will on occasion pitch every 6th after the break)
but there's no denying the power of the dollar, and the powers that be want this to happen.

I hope not.
So they do this and the kid survives. Next year or two we bring up Bryce Harper for the Home Run hitting contest because he has hit the longest home run in Tropicana Field history?
In golf it was Ty Tryon.( 6-8 years ago). What a disaster and a waste of talent.
This turns into a freak show much like the NBA and everyone knows Lebron and Kobe but how about the countless others that went down the toilet.
I root for the kids in this spot. Will see them for the next 12+ years if they stay healthy anyway. What is the rush.
Lastly, in 1968 the 2 player rookie card of value was the Jerry Koosman Rookie.
And while Jerry Koosman was a very ,very good pitcher for the Mets for a good while, the OTHER GUY on the card was Nolan Ryan.

Sorry Stealthy, I did not answer your question .
You must let the future be just that.
If you harm the future for the moment, look what you have done.
Break even or lose.
The game has got to lose in the long run .

i certainly agree we should be wary and mindful of the future.
but its not like he's a hitter enter the HR derby, where he could potentially mess up his swing.
plus, he will be rested, his last start prior to the break is the 8th, 5 days prior to the game. and i'm assuming he won't be the starting thus he will probably be relegated to 1 inning max.
if i were the nats and he made the roster i'd tell him to pitch the way he always has and not try to gas 100+ mph fastballs to dazzle the crowd.
the only way i see it being detrimental is if he tries to tinker with his mechanics, or suffers some horrible freak injury during the game.

What if they drop a 5 spot on him?
Couple of walks (nerves) a Baltimore chop and the 2,3,4,5, coming up.
Kid does have nerves, one would think, although he is unbelievable at this point.
Would have to pull him and that can only hurt. I mean, how much should the kid have to endure in his first year for fans to be satisfied.
Again, break even or lose and that really is not fair to him ,fans or not.
