Ridiculous gay scene in the movie "Midnight Express"

Its a really good movie, close to being a great movie. Not only do i think so but the critics liked it as well. 3 stars at least. Anyways netflix has it..........but to make a long story short its a prison movie that slips in a gay scene with the main character including actual action .............catches the viewer completely by suprise as there were no hints it might happen. anyone see this movie?

The movie is based on a book which was written by the real life Billy Hayes about his experience. In reality Billy Hayes had a relationship with a male inmate while he was in prison, it's in the book too. The screenplay changed the real story and had him rebuke his male prison-mate's advances to main stream it. Oh and yeah brad davis (the actor who played billy hayes) died of aids but he was apparently straight.

he was all hopped up on anti-depressants and speed. got raped in hells kitchen i think, at least thats what i heard. he had a nice girl but they fell out of contact
