    Computer Question
I know my computer is beat up. It is about 5 years old. Why is it, if I start my computer in "safe mode with networking" and go on the net, it seems fine. When I start it and try to go on normally, it takes 7 minutes to get on the net and that is being generous.

You have too many start up processes going on. IE programs you've installed over the years that are default to start when your computer turns on. Some of these are just spyware running. You need to go into your start up configuration and make sure only the default needed applications are running on start up.

if you have XP or ealier since your system is over 5 years old

      Start<run<(type)msconfig

Tab over to start up, and make sure nothing is checked that you feel is unnecessary upon start up. If you dont know what some of the program are resort to the default boot options and make sure only those processes are checked.

Are you running any anti virus or anti spyware programs? Sounds like you may have a ton of spyware, and like Until said you probably have a bunch of unnecessary old software or programs that load automatically at start up. Spybot search and Destroy has an excellent free program that will analyze and remove spyware. Also make sure your system has all the latest updates from Microsoft, with any older system, without the newer updates, you could leave yourself open to nasty viruses or worse, have you computer being taken over by a bot net.

If you boot your computer while a USB storage is connected, it might take several minutes.

Save what you need off of it on an external drive and do a system restore & reformat. It will dramatically improve the computer's performance.

def reformat and start from scratch. More than likely you have too many start up programs running at once. Over time you download software and extras that you don't need and eventually bogs your computer down. You could also try uninstalling and deleting things you don't need. Then run a disk cleanup and a defrag

A recallibration and system restore would solve ur issue but in this circumstance its not necessary if your only symtons are slow start up.

If your ram sucks n applications run slow after start up then yes it wud be neccesary but id start from what i said above n go from there
