i have an 8 team parlay with a tennis player who retired, does it just count as tie for the retired player or a loss?

I would think it would depend what the rules are of your book. Most likely it would just be taken out of the parlay though and the odds recalculated.

Did the player play at all ?

I've seen one ball, one set, whole match for action ?

        usually at least one set.

Depends on the rules of the book. I have seen those that require one set. two sets, complete match and one ball served for match to be official. Read your book's rules.
