Ok my trunk lever switch by my front seat doesn't work anymore. Trouble is I cannot get into my trunk to fix it as I have never had a key for the trunk. I want to just get a replacement key for the trunk. Any suggestions about the best course to take get this fixed cheap?

#8pull the lever repeatly and have someone lightly bang the trunk lid...maybe it will pop open...otherwise...pull the lock out with a dent puller ...put a screwdriver in the hole and turn and it will open...then order a lock from the dealer and install it...Comment -

You might even catch a Toyota dealer open in Hawaii now, if you want to make use of free long distance !

they cut it on the spot. and it is 100+ if it was a newer car with a chip key but even then you can get a non chip key cut- it just wont start the car. but 1st gen avalons dont have chip keys. not every dealer cuts keys by the vin but most do. good luck. it sucks u locked your keys in the trunk been there.Comment -

#31Here's another way....
drive crazy, get stopped by Po-Lice, when Po-Lice ask to search car, give permission. Then you'll get trunk opened for free !Comment -

#33If the dealer will cut a key for $20...I'd do that long before fvcking around removing seats to bet access.
Its a 15 year old beater, you just want to get in the trunk via key or release from cabin or whatever.
I've had several beater corrollas myself....like 70's models in the mid/late 80's. I had one I bought for $200 with 220k+ miles, drove it for a year+...never did anything but change oil...ran it to 250K and sold it for $300 !Comment -

#35Hey Keith, check the lever that releases the trunk, the cable may have just become disconnected. These toyotas have a little clip that the cable slides into, if it's broken, you can use a pair of vise grip type plyers to grab the cable and pull it so the trunk will release and open. Most of the time it is the lever that breaks and not the cable. You might be able to find one in a salvage yard.Comment
