JJ you were right all along
Winning is a letdown. Just like that video you did awhile back about how you're in action the whole game, then you win the bet. It's like cumming. Then you feel empty.

I've been sweating this Yankees bet all night. Now they break the game open and I don't even feel like watching the bet cash. And if the bet had lost, it would have been a punch in the gut.

Won't see me agreeing with JJ too often but he's certainly right on this one. Recreational gamblers always end up unhappier in the long run.

I'm happy to win, but whatever. Winning anything is overrated. And losing stays with you. Just ask the Lakers. They've already put this win in the trophy case, and it means nothing now. It's old news. They are already worried about defending their title. The Celtics on the other hand have probably still not gotten out of bed.

Losing hurts 100x more than winning feels good.

I've actually become a pretty disciplined gambler and I play to win. But it's boring. You grind out a game and then it's over. No thrill in it.

I can see why people become degenerates. You develop tolerance, just like a drug. So you have to press your bets to get the same thrill. $20 bettors eventually become nickel bettors and then become desensitized to even that. For this reason, people that play for action will never win. And those that play to win do not get any thrill out of it.

Well Professional gambling is boring and if you like excitement more then making a living off of it, well I suggest you keep it recreational and only wager what you are comfortable of parting with......

No sense in doing that, as I hate to lose. Nothing really exciting about that, it's an illusion that most of this board will never figure out. Hell, JJ's figured it out and still bets.

Its not about winning at all. I am well read and know this stuff. I have been at GA Meetings where guys trying to look down my pants for something..

Betting is for action only and a high like a drug, most of us bet to mask other issues we have.

If we won most of the time we all would get very depressed and quit gambling because it would not be a drug anymore.

I love the way I feel before 1st pitch knowing there is huge risk and kind of like when I am losing knowing there is always a shot to comeback.

Don't point to Ron Artest as an example of this. Guy still hasn't taken his jersey off. Ok he actually gave it away late, LATE that evening but he was on PPI yesterday and you could see just how happy he was. Sure the guy is happy just watching a worm wiggle but it was genuine.

JJ- do you get the same high if you bet a huge parlay, like a 6 or 7 teamer, look at the bet on the screen, and anticipate a huge score? Or do you just like to make a bet and focus on one bet for your action high?
