Wheell, is that an actual line posted somewhere? If so, please share where. Given my belief that he won't rest players I would loooooove to bet that #. Shit, I'd almost lay 7.5 in the 1st quarter with Brady against the Giants' secondary.

If the Pats go on to win the Super Bowl, then yes they will be IMO the best NFL team off all times.

Combine the '07 Pat O and the '85 Bear D and you a have a team for the ages. Agree with John that '85 Bears are comparable, but Pats are better at this point. Time will tell.

Through 10 games no one has matched their stats period !!!

They have shattered record after record with more to come.

They could win out even if Brady sits every game. Their defense is as good as any in the league and the offensive line is the best. With their receivers anyone can qb them to a win.

                  JOHNNY,

YOU HEARD IT HERE FIRST!!!:THE PITTSBURGH STEELERS WILL STOP THEM( i am not a fan of any teams IN ANY LEAGUES,except for the Leafs & NYR).Look at the Cleveland game if they had Pittsburgh defense that day they would have beaten them.Pittsburgh can score and they have a Defense that will do what the rest of the league as refuse to do (except for indy) witch is to put pressure on Brady. If you remember back in 1990 that superb BUFFALO BILLS "no huddle" team and the "repeat"49ers teams OF 88,89 with overrated Montana. They where doing the same thing as NE is doing now, ironically it was bellicheck that stop them(& fatso Parcel collected the glory)by doing to them what nobody was able(i.e. willing)to do witch is to pressure the QB.Brady stands there all day holding is dick in his hand ,any QB that as that much time will be great and will look like gang busters.

                    Speculator,
I hope you are right. We can not forget that this is the NFL. KC almost beats Indy in Indy last Sunday. Pitt has a punchers chance.

No way. Cassell won't win a meaningful game as a starting QB this year. If Brady sits, it's game over for the Pats against any competent team. Brady makes this whole thing go 'round.

Injuries can change everything in a heartbeat. Look at the Colts. The Colts look very mortal without Marvin, Peyton's right hand man. Hell, if Marvin played when the Pats came to Indy, they very well could've taken that game. If the Pats lose Brady/Moss or even Welker, this team becomes much more mortal.

The Pats D is getting old. So far there haven't been any problems, probably because they haven't been in any real battles or tested too much, but there are vulnerabilities in the D, if a good coach knows where to look.

if they go undefeated and win the Superbowl, then yeah, best team ever since the legendary dolphins.

wouldn't it be funny if the dolphins went 0-16 and the pats go 16-0 and win the superbowl.

on the other side, this is the saddest dolphin team ever

To this point in the season, nobody has ever done what the Patriots are doing in 2007.

The 1985 Bears are the only ones coming close in my mind. But only half of their regular season games were true "Patriotesque" blowouts. Of the 15 regular season wins, 4 were by single digits, only 4 games were 20+ point blowouts. The playoff run really is convincing, though: 21-0, 24-0 & 46-10. If the Pats make a playoff run like that, 3 TD cushion in every playoff game, that's pretty convincing.

That Bears defense created pressure unlike any team in the history of the NFL. It would be a sick game. It should be noted that Steve Fuller started several of the games for the Bears that year and that McMahon was never 100%, but then again, he was never 100% - he just played so reckless on the field. Add in aging Walter Payton that could run in any era and you'd have a heluva matchup.

If you played 100 games of the 85 Bears vs this year's Pats, I think the Bears would win 51 or 52 times.

I say that because that's easily the best defense ever and the Pats are mostly a passing team - playing into the Bear's strength. GL getting the ball down the field a lot with Brady on his butt. Also, the Pats ability to run the football is not nearly enough to keep that D honest - besides, they were never honest and had a top 5 all time front 7.

It should be noted that the Patriots line, while superior to most, is because it's strength is pass protection. It is 'mediocre' at best in run blocking.

As for the Bears O vs the Pats D - the Pats D might not have had much of an answer to the speedy wideouts - but overall are a stronger unit that can do a lot. This is more of a wash - because you can move the ball a bit on the Pats.

I think in all that, it's hard to say right now as the Pats havn't won it all, and they would have to...
But for free agency - comparing the 2 makes it impossible and if the Pats ran the table, their accomplishment would be superior IMO, even if they weren't necessarily the best team of all time.

McBa1n: Don't overestimate the 85 Bears. If it weren't for a monsoon in Miami the Bears would have faced a Super Bowl rematch of the only team to beat them (handily) in the regular season. The Bears were a great team, but they were vulnerable to a quick strike vertical passing game, something the 85 Dolphins and 2007 Patriots could attack with. Furthermore, the Bears offense was far from great. I'd rank the Patriots defense ahead of the Bears offense.

As for the Patriots run attack, they simply have focused all their resources into the passing game, and with great effect. The offense gets to call the plays, not the defense, so if the offense wants to throw the ball on almost every down, the strength of the running game isn't much of an issue. If you can't stop the run, you lose. If you can't run the ball, throw it.

As for the 2001 Ravens defense, well, the Ravens weren't as good as the titans that year, and were incredibly lucky to beat them.

I would love to see the greatest teams of all time face each other in a variety of sports, but that isn't going to happen. As is, the data suggests the Patriots are the best team of all time through this point of the season. If the Patriots don't regress to the mean and dominate their way to a Super Bowl victory, well, I'd say both the 85 Bears and 72 Dolphins would have yield to the new kings of the NFL.

Now, the undefeated Dolphins were not the best team of all time, IMO. They are the only undefeated team in NFL history. For me, there is a big difference.

When you look at the 72 Dolphins record, they didn't beat hardly anyone with a winning record. Now, I know you can only play who is on the schedule, but the Noll's Steelers, Ditka's Bears, Walsh's Niners, Jimmy's Cowboys were all better than the 72 Dolphins, IMO.

The Patriots are playing GREAT football right now. No question about it. But it's only November. The Super Bowl isn't played until February. And they are only one season-ending injury to Tom Brady away from being merely mortal.

So, let the season play out. If they're the best of all time, we'll know it in February.
