    Techies...I need your help!
Anyone opening this thread automatically knows more about computers/website admin/code than I. Now here is something that I cannot figure out and have gottten the standard answer from some that what I am about to show you is spam. Ok, on my website I have a contact me page. Today I have received 6 messages that were entered through my site and bounced to me in my regular email addy. If you know what this is and why anyone would send it, can you please answer me in layman's terms. Damn, I just know I'm not going to get a response to this and even if I do I won't be able to understand it. Here goes anyway. Here are 2 of the 6 messages as they all look similar but not identical: Please don't just tell me it's spam. If it is, tell me how this is spam and why someone or some robot would do this.

These .com addys appear to be phony email addresses. I received 6 of these today. Any guesses my techically proficient friends? Thanks for the help.

Hey black....i am just asking what is this stuff being sent to my box thru my website. Someone is going to lengths to enter this jibberish thru my contact page on my website and it winds up in my email in-box. I merely want to know what this is that's being sent to me and why.

      Thanks.

you need to do a verification before someone can send you something through the contact page.

Image verification will take care of most spambots.

Right Yis, I had one but evidentally my web guy removed it. But to the point, please tell me what this spam bot is trying to accomplish? All it accomplishes is that this "stuff" gets sent to me. When I think of spamming I think of me hyperlinking my website all over SBR. This stuff never even shows up on my site, it just goes to my email addy. So whats the point?

whats the purpose of any spam? to piss you off to no end enough to where you wanna reach through the intrawebs and beat the shit out of the person who created the bot!

delete it, get your web guy to get some character recognition and go about your business

Ok, but it doesnt happen everyday. last time this happened was about a month ago. I'm still not understanding what this robot is doing other than sending useless crap to my box. There has to be a reason for sending a bot to do this work. What is it?

Don't fade on me black. i know you're a smarty pants with this stuff. Just get me to the finish line here. By sending me this to my email what is the ultimate reason? If it said Buy Viagara cheap at www.blahblahblah I would understand it. But this is telling me nothing.

sorry man just having some fun!

well the links you posted that you said you got from them are dead links. so who knows about that. some spam might contain viruses in hope of the person opening them. some might contain keystroke programs that will open and run unknowingly in the background so they can gain access to everything you type.

again i wouldn't lose any sleep over it as you will never know the reasoning for any spam.

some spam is sent hoping to get a response. If you reply to the e-mail or click on a link in it, it'll know your e-mail is active, and your e-mail address will be distributed to all the spam lists.

It's unusual, but I wouldn't worry about the reasoning behind it.

Just have your tech guy put the verification back in place. Most websites with a contact us link require you to either be logged in (to register you need to do the verification anyway), or do the image verification if not. It's there because of problems like the ones you're experiencing.
