If I were to bet $6k over and over again, which is pinnacles limit on totals, would the juice change or woud the line ever be affected?

What's the difference? Value changes and that is enough.

      Fabric,

Remember pinnacle has a drop down menu for most totals, so the question in those cases beocmes irrelevant. but to answer your question, if you bet enough on a line, than you will ultimately move the line. The amount you need to bet is dependant on the sport.

Last night's Denver-Houston NBA half-time an example. McGrady went down at the very end of the half and Denver money flooded in turning -2, -105 into -2, -190 before they said enough is enough and moved it to +1, -110 to turn the scalpers into middlers.

I understand that but I am talking about just a little half time total. No circumstances similar to the above. If the line is 96.5 1st half total +118, then I wager he max what type of effect could it have?

NBA or big college game the line will move two or three cents if all the other bets are a wash, maybe a nickel if in the last minute before the horn.

It depends on who you are, I should say it depends on if Pinnacle feels you are sharp. If you are a whale you can bet $100,000 and they will NOT move the line. If you are sharp you will move the line with a $1,000 bet.

I doubt they wouldn't move the line on a $100,000 bet (we are talking about value change of whatever kind, it makes no difference if they decide to move the number or the price). Everyone can move the price, it all depends on max limits, so there's no point in saying what exact amount will or will not move the price without taking into consideration relevant market. Besides, the price movement is done automatically, the point spread manually -- in most cases.

magnavox, i think John might be right to a degree on this one.

if a player is a well known sharp, and they respect his wagers enough. they might move the line on that merrit alone.

yeah, I'd agree that it's all about who places the wager...a $1000 wager by a sharp means a lot more than a $15,000 wager from a square...

I have been to Pinnacle many, many times. If you want to talk to the main guy at Pinny you have to sit on the stage, where the odds makers are, and wait for a slow minute. I've seen guys calling in $50k bets and higher and Pinny eats them up. But when a sharp bets $2k they scramble, they check news wires and their info, they decide what line will expose them to how many $. Its quite a scene.

If you are profiled as "sharp" you will move the cents, like one cent, automatically.

                          I wasn't questioning that.

John, I was talking about the big picture and not particularly about big time events. You say they think you're square, then please bet the NBA quarter total for $500. The line will move more than your one cent for sure.

I moved the line 13 cents ( 16 cent line) at Pinny ( on 4 different games) with $100 ( their max) bet on German hockey totals. It gives you a false sense of importance.

With major sports I think it would take a lot big bets, or a lot of respect to move the line much, except when numbers first get posted for betting.

And that is exactly the point I was making. Good summary.

i've done something similar with snooker, only the max was like 742.36 or something wierd like that. then the line moved like 30 cents.

Mag OK good point on the quarters and halves. And thanks for Doug's input on non-major events.

Probably on quarters and halves they are just trying to get some balance. They dont have time to be sharp so the line moves strictly on action.
