and one 2nd rounder... Prob the most ever in MLB history..

bunch of failed fukin Athaletes.... shows you how difficult it is to judge talent in baseball

when they call Jeff Clement back up, they could conceivably have 7 first rounders in the lineup at the same time

And they are still the worst team in baseball, amazing!

Ask the Tampa Bay Rays how it is done.

They are nowhere near the worst team in baseball. Try again.

Chi, I think you are right about baseball being maybe the toughest sport to recognize big league talent. Not sure if it's because so many more players to choose from, not as competitive of competition on the college level vs football and basketball or simply due to the number of games in the majors (course most of these kids play year round so doubt that is it) but there is definately something.

Never been an American League fan but I am partial to the Rays for obvious home state reasons. They have maybe one of the best developmental systems and talent scouts in baseball right now.

I think it also has somthing to do with the fact that there are so many pitfalls, injuries, and other ways for a player to get side-tracked during his development....

a first round draft pick out of high school, somtimes takes 4,5,6 years to get all the way to the Majors from short-season rookie ball. A college guy might take 3 years...

somtimes you see guys get drafted, spend 7-10 years in the minors toiling, before they finally get a break...

its much different from a 19 year old basketball phenom that can come in, and be a major contributer in the NBA. Or a 20,21, 22 year old running back with 2 years of college football, come in and be amongst the league leaders in yards in the NFL...

Baseball is about much much much more than just physical talent... the skills that take TIME and solid coaching take longer to aquire and the mental/emotional aspect is much more important in baseball development.

Baltimore might have something to say about that.

I don't mind the young players getting paid, when arbitration comes up..... mostly they get what they deserve. its the old free agents that shouldn't be getting paid in this organization.

and when it comes down to it, I don't like the owners sucking up all the luxury tax and not putting back into product.... but the buccos are starting to change that over the past 2 seasons
