Apple has just issued a press release announcing 600,000 pre-orders for iPhone 4 yesterday, "far higher" than the company anticipated. In the release, the company also apologizes for the frustration and difficulties experienced by those attempting to pre-order.
Yesterday Apple and its carrier partners took pre-orders for more than 600,000 of Apple's new iPhone 4. It was the largest number of pre-orders Apple has ever taken in a single day and was far higher than we anticipated, resulting in many order and approval system malfunctions. Many customers were turned away or abandoned the process in frustration. We apologize to everyone who encountered difficulties, and hope that they will try again or visit an Apple or carrier store once the iPhone 4 is in stock.

Earlier today, several iPhone carrier partners had indicated iPhone 4 traffic and pre-order volume ten times that of last year's iPhone 3GS launch. AT&T reported today that it had accepted 10-times the number of pre-order sales on the first day compared to the iPhone 3GS which went on sale last year.

Had both iPhone and the new Android phones. Some of the Android phones are weak, but the Incredible and EVO are at the moment superior to the iPhone. The new iPhone really doesn't offer much that is new. As long as Apple sticks around and there is healthy competition between them and Google we should all reap the benefits, but Apple's recent attitude will be their downfall.

Android is open, Apple is closed. As proven time and time again, that is the most important thing in the tech world. How they think they are beyond this is mind-blowing, but will come to nip them in the end.

Yeah but if you buy more stock instead of their Iphones you make more. You spent $150 a month and $800 every time they come up with a new iphone. That's about $10,000 the last 4 years. If you had bought $10,000 worth of Apple stock instead you would have been richer now.

You like the operating system then, not the PC. Apple uses parts from Samsung, Asus, etc just like every other quality computer / laptop manufacturer. Apple just marks theirs up 200% based on this misconception that they have their own hardware.

You are paying substantially more for an operating system, not a "quality PC." Nothing wrong with that if it's your bag.

I went from an iphone 3gs to Motorola Droid and personally I think the android is just as good. I also prefer to have a hardware keyboard.

It's also silly to buy a phone that is the first in it's series. There will be problems with it and an updated version of the Iphone 4 will probably come out in 6 months or less.

ill be the first to admit i have wasted my money many times but it doesn't happen very much nowadays. I would love to have a iphone or Evo for the 4g but like bogbat said you never buy first generation anything, even brand new imo. Im scouring ebay and craigslist just waiting to snatch up a PSPgo, brand new they are 250 bucks with 16gb memory built in. You can also make free phone calls with it in certain situations with no monthly fee and free internet.
