Celtics Lose Perkins To Knee InjuryJune 15, 2010 · 9:48PMPosted by Sekou Smith
LOS ANGELES – Celtics center Kendrick Perkins had to carried to the locker room by two of his teammates with 5:30 to play in the first quarter after landing awkwardly on his right knee under the basket.
Lakers center Andrew Bynum fell over the top of Perkins on the play but it was the landing and not the blow that appeared to cause the most damage.
Celtics PR boss Jeff Twiss made the rounds around press row minutes later and informed us all that Perkins was having his knee X-rayed and that he was out with a right knee injury. He did not say whether Perkins would return or not, but it was obvious from the way he was carried off the court that the injury could not only cost him the rest of Game 6 but also the series.
That’s a serious blow for a Celtics team that needed all of its low-post firepower against a Lakers team that was outrebounding them 19-7 early in the second quarter.

UPDATE: Perkins will be evaluated again Wednesday and his status for Game 7 is unknown. But ESPN’s Ric Bucher caught up with Perkins as he exited the locker room under his own power, though walking “stiffly” as Bucher wrote on Twitter.
Perkins told Bucher that he’d “try and give it a go” in Game 7.
Celtics coach Doc Rivers didn’t sound nearly as optimistic when asked about any details pertaining to the injury and his center’s availability for Game 7.
“I don’t know,” Rivers said. “It doesn’t look great, but I don’t know.”

For a single game, the Celts can overcome the loss. Will take a great effort from 'Sheed, Baby, Williams, maybe even Scal, but they can do it. Come on, it's GAME SEVEN -- not gonna be decided based on one injured player.

Is Perkins that important to the Celtics success? If he is....then Boston is in trouble. It doesn't sound like he's going to play in Game 7. Who starts in his place....Baby, Rasheed, who??

E-mail Print (0) Comments Text size Share Buzz up!LOS ANGELES - From the slow process of helping to carry Kendrick Perkins [stats] off the floor in the first quarter to the Celtics [team stats] center’s trip for an X-ray, the evidence doesn’t sound good to his teammates.
Perkins’ diagnosis may be a sprained right knee that will be re-evaluated today, but Ray Allen sounded like he was saying goodbye last night.
“It’s terribly unfortunate,” said the Celtics guard following the 89-67 loss to the Lakers in Game 6 of the NBA Finals. “You hate to see that (happen to) anybody, if it was this team or the other team. But we have to do this for him. We have to push forward, and there are guys on the bench that can step up and make the plays that Perk is capable of, or has made over the course of our time here.
“So you know, it does make Glen (Davis) more valuable, and Rasheed (Wallace) will play more minutes and definitely Shelden (Williams) will be in there a lot more,” said Allen. “We’re going to be counting on them.”
That doesn’t lessen the sense of dread that spread through the team at the sight of Perkins going down.
“We all ran into the locker room to see how he was feeling,” said Rajon Rondo [stats]. “It’s unfortunate. He’s the biggest body we have. He does a lot of intangibles. He’s our shot-blocker.
“But we have a lot of guys on the roster who can step in - Big Baby (Davis), Rasheed.”
