The U. S. dollar is the universal currency; English, the universal language. The most feared army in the world is the US Army. New York city is the Rome of our times.
The U. S. might be struggling these days, ok, but they are the only remaining superpower yet, and will be for many years ahead.

As for New York being the Rome of modern times... it's not so clear cut as you think it is... if you've been outside of the US, Paris, London, Hong Kong and Tokyo rival New York, hands down.
